The University of Wolverhampton has recognised the achievements and successes of music maestro, Harpreet Singh Jandu who is professionally known in the music industry as ‘PBN’ (Punjabi by Nature).
Though his parents had initial reservations about Harpreet going into the music industry due to fears over the pay and support, his success has been paramount, with the local South Asian community supporting him in every venture with pride in their hearts.
Harpreet was born and raised in Wolverhampton having attended Pendeford High School and sixth form in his early years. Now he is a flourishing success with his own record label and a global presence.
Honorary awards are often presented by the University to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise and Harpreet has certainly excelled in his contributions to the South Asian music scene and representation.
His work in the music industry encompasses a vast range of talents as a music producer, artist, and director of Playback Records.
His stage name, ‘PBN’ is now a household name across the South Asian community, topping music charts, headlining shows for audiences across the globe and accumulating millions of music streams.
Besides his musical accomplishments, he actively participates in numerous charity events and campaigns across the UK.
When discussing this award, Harpreet said: “To receive such recognition is an honour beyond words, I am humbled and grateful to the University of Wolverhampton in acknowledging my work and career.”
Having been born and bred from the city as well as having studied here, it is clear to see the pride and gratitude he still holds for Wolverhampton.
He went on to say “My passion for music began whilst studying at the university. I have very fond memories of the time I spent here and look forward to returning to attend this prestigious event.”
Harpreet’s story is one of resilience, growth, and perseverance, and is a shining example of South Asian representation in the music industry.
The University’s graduation ceremonies are taking place at University of Wolverhampton The Halls from Friday 6 September to Friday 13 September 2024.
