A pub and restaurant in South Tyneside has temporarily closed after two staff members tested positive for coronavirus.
The Lakeside Inn, Jarrow, confirmed all its staff have been tested and are awaiting the results of their tests and some staff have also decided to self-isolate.
They are working with Public Health England in order to take the correct precautionary measures and ensuring they follow the Test and Trace protocol in place.
The pub is undergoing a deep, industrial clean by a specialist cleaning company following the incident to ensure they have met COVID-19 safety regulations.
In a statement today, the pub owners said: “We have taken the decision after careful consideration to temporarily close the restaurant. To ensure the safety of our customers and staff. We have hired the services of Premier Asbestos to conduct an industrial deep clean that will be certified as an added measure to clean the premises to COVID regulations.
“To be transparent all of the staff from the Lakeside have now all been tested for COVID 19 and we are awaiting all the results back. A number of our staff have taken the decision to self-isolate following 2 positive reading amongst the team.
“We are now working with Public Health England on the correct measures and steps to take along with track and trace who will contact the customers. We are supporting the staff in the decision. We will reopen very soon once the deep clean is complete and will only be allowing staff back on shift who have a negative NHS certificate.
“We are so sorry if this decision has caused any distress or concerns to our customers and if you believe you have any symptoms, advise you to follow the most recent public health guidance available on the NHS website.
“We would like to reassure you of the safety robust practices that will be in place when we reopen to keep you and our staff in a safe environment.”
