PARO: The Untold Story of Bride Slavery: Taha Shah Badussha shares that she aims to take on roles that build awareness

Actor Taha Shah Badussha steps into a transformative role in the upcoming social drama ‘PARO – The Untold Story of Bride Slavery’. Directed by two-time National Award-winning filmmaker Gajendra Ahire, the film is conceptualised and headlined by celebrated Marathi actress, filmmaker, and social activist Trupti Bhoir.

The film tackles the harrowing reality of ‘PARO’ or ‘Molki’ brides, women bought and sold into marriage, often becoming victims of modern-day slavery. At the heart of the story is Chand, portrayed by Trupti Bhoir, who becomes entangled in this cycle of exploitation. Taha Shah Badussha plays Rashid, one of Chand’s husbands. Rashid’s character arc reflects a journey from indifference to accountability, offering a nuanced portrayal of change.

Reflecting on the film’s impact, Taha shared, ‘PARO is a film that deeply affected me when I first heard about it. I aim to take on roles that build awareness and inspire change. Everyone who has seen the movie so far has been deeply moved by its story, and that is the impact we aimed to achieve.’

The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, followed by a showcase at Academy LA during Los Angeles Fashion Week. At the LA event, Trupti Bhoir also introduced TARPA TRIBES, a sustainable fashion initiative under her SHELTER FOUNDATION, supporting tribal women from Palghar, Maharashtra.

Following a successful run on the global festival circuit, ‘PARO – The Untold Story of Bride Slavery’ is tentatively scheduled for release in India in the second half of 2025.
