Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has passed away age 99.

The Prince was known to be in bad health before his death which was announced by the Royal Family today. This year, the Prince has spent a lot of time in hospital due to pre-existing conditions.

The Palace have issued a statement which said, “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen ahs announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

Prince Philip was born in 1921 in Greece. He and his family were exiled whilst he was still a child. The Prince went on to join the British Royal Navy in 1939 and served for many years. He married Queen Elizabeth in 1947, six years before her coronation. He recently retired from his royal duties in 2017.

In recent years, the Prince has been portrayed by both Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies on respective series of the Netflix show, ‘The Crown’.
