Reema Kagti’s Superboys of Malegaon is set to release in cinemas on 28 February, the filmmakers announced on Tuesday. Inspired by true events, the film takes place in the small town of Malegaon, Maharashtra, and follows the story of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker. Written by Varun Grover, the film features Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, Shashank Arora, and Anuj Singh Duhan in lead roles.
According to a press release, Superboys of Malegaon will have a wide theatrical release across India, the US, the UK, the UAE, Australia, and New Zealand. After its cinema run, the film will premiere digitally on Prime Video.
Adarsh Gourav, known for his acclaimed roles in The White Tiger and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, portrays Nasir Shaikh, a man who dreams of making a film for the people of Malegaon, with the people of Malegaon. The film’s synopsis describes it as “a poignant yet uplifting take on both filmmaking and friendship – and what happens when those two worlds collide.”
The story captures Malegaon’s deep connection with Bollywood, as residents turn to cinema for a welcome escape from the challenges of daily life. Nasir, inspired to create a film that resonates with his community, rallies his group of friends to bring his vision to life, injecting a new sense of hope and creativity into the town.
Superboys of Malegaon has already garnered critical acclaim, receiving a special mention in the Young Cineastes Award category at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival. The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and was later showcased at the 2024 BFI London Film Festival and the fourth Red Sea Film Festival.
Produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Films, the film promises to offer an inspiring look at the power of cinema, community, and perseverance.
