Filmmaker and composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has released his first original music album titled Sukoon. The album features nine original compositions featuring award-winning Indian singers Shreya Ghoshal and Armaan Malik among others.

The 42 minute long album has a very classical touch, which has been reflected through the use of tabla and other Indian musical instruments in the background, for each of the songs.

Attempting to soothe the listener, the theme around the album evidently revolves around the concept of Ghazals with brilliant lyrics, which are well portrayed by the singers involved

The word Sukoon means satisfaction, and the album truly lives up to the name.

The album transports the listener back to the era of ghazals, where stalwarts like Jagjit Singh used to entertain the audience. The music, especially, is reminiscent of the time.

In addition to Shreya Ghoshal and Armaan Malik, singers Rashid Khan, Sahil Hada, Papon, Pratibha Baghel and Madhubanti Bagchi have come together to render the playlist of Sukoon.

Here is the playlist of songs in the album

A still from Ghalib Hona Hai

Ghalib Hona Hai by Armaan Malik

The only song, for which a separate video has been released, stars Arman Malik, who seemingly plays a singer falling in love with a dance choreographer on set. “Ghalib Hona Hai”, a reference to a legendary pre-Independence Indian poet, Mirza Ghalib, runs like a ballad of sorts which the singer sings for the female lead, while silently falling in love.

Speaking about his song Armaan shared, “I am really excited about Ghalib Hona Hai because it’s truly an honour to sing a composition by Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir. I have dreamt of working on a collaboration with him for a very long time and finally the world will get to experience this audio-visual treat! Vocally, Sanjay sir has explored a very different side of me and I’m glad that he pushed me beyond my limits to give my absolute best; nothing short of it. Everyone involved with Sukoon has been eagerly waiting for this album to see the light of day for the longest time and now, the world can make this their own.”

Tujhe Bhi Chand and Qaraar by Shreya Ghoshal

Shreya Ghosal, in the two songs, sings at her usual best. These songs, like the theme of album, runs along with a soothing classical temperament on which the singer adds a further crown.

Speaking about her association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shreya shared, “I have been working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir since I was 16 and I cannot be more grateful towards him for always believing in me. ‘Sukoon’ is yet another masterpiece by him that will change the take on Ghazals in this Morden Era.”

Dard Pattharon Ko by Papon

Dard Pattharon Ko by Papon, seemingly revolves around the concept of human feelings, suggesting that any person howsoever strong and stone-hearted, will feel pain in some or the other way. The song draws comparisons with non living things to portray the same.

Speaking on working for Sukoon, Papon shared, “I have a special place for ghazals in my heart. Collaborating with Mr Bhansali on such a heartfelt album, which is his first original music album, has been a pleasure and an honour. There are so many other talented artists featured on it as well. I am sure it will be a treat to the listeners. Looking forward to all the love it’s going to receive.”

Gham Na Hone by Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan shared, “Working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali always brings out the best in us. This Sukoon album is one of a kind.”

Har Ek Baat by Pratibha Baghel

Sung by Pratibha Baghel, the song is a rendition of Mirza Ghalib’s famous creation “Har ek baat pe kehte ho tum ki tu kya hai”

Speaking about her song Pratibha shared, “Super thrilled & honoured to be a part of the Maestro Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s musical creation. It is nothing but a dream come true.”

Muskurahat and Siva Tere (Male) by Shail Hada

Talking about his association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shail Hada shared, “Souls search Sukoon. When music & melancholy is created within the soul and it touches other’s souls that’s what I call Sukoon, and that’s what Sir Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s album Sukoon is all about for me.”

Siva Tere (Female) Madhubanti Bagchi

Speaking about her association with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Madhubanti Bagchi said, “It was an honour to be featured in Sir’s first non-film album along with some of the best artists of our country. Hope the album receives love and admiration from the listeners as well.”
