When Rohit Shetty, Bollywood’s undisputed king of high-octane action, announces a new project, you expect flying cars, slo-mo explosions, and a cop flipping his sunglasses mid-air. But this time, he’s doing something different. Something real. And he’s bringing along one of the most intense leading men in the industry-John Abraham.

For the very first time, Shetty and Abraham are joining forces, and no, it’s not another instalment of the Singham universe. It’s a biographical crime thriller based on the life of one of India’s most revered police officers: Rakesh Maria.

Forget comic relief and over-the-top villains. This film is all about true grit. Rakesh Maria is the real deal- A man who cracked the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, interrogated terrorist Ajmal Kasab post-26/11, and rose through the ranks with steel nerves and a mind like a chess grandmaster.

Based on Maria’s memoir Let Me Say It Now, the film will peel back the layers of what it really means to be a cop on the frontlines of modern terrorism and corruption.

Known for playing intense roles with a blend of brute strength and quiet emotion, John Abraham seems tailor-made for this. But here, he’s not just throwing punches- he’s unravelling conspiracies, facing moral dilemmas, and living out the kind of complex, layered narrative that’s rarely explored in action cinema.

It’s not about the slow-motion walk anymore- it’s about walking a tightrope between duty and danger.

This marks Rohit Shetty’s first biopic, and it’s set to film across over 40 real Mumbai locations- including CST Station and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The shoot begins on 18 April, 2025 with a team of  specialists from prosthetics experts to action coordinators, all committed to recreating a world of high-stakes investigations and nail-biting truths.

It’s wild to think that two of Bollywood’s most action-savvy figures- Shetty behind the camera and Abraham in front of it- have never worked together until now. But this collaboration feels timely, thrilling, and surprisingly fresh.

And while Shetty’s signature style may still find a way to sneak into a few sequences, this film is clearly aiming for something more grounded: A cinematic salute to a real-life hero who faced down terror, pressure, and politics with fearless resolve.

This isn’t your typical Bollywood cop flick. It’s something bigger. More thoughtful. Still dramatic, but driven by real events and real consequences. Rohit Shetty’s flair meets John Abraham’s fire and together, they’re bringing the story of Rakesh Maria to life. Expect intrigue, patriotism, danger, and a fair share of goosebumps.

Keep your eyes on this one. Because sometimes, truth hits harder than fiction.
