Sabrina Carpenter, 25, and Barry Keoghan, 32, have reportedly decided to take a break from their relationship after dating for nearly a year. A source told People that the “Espresso” singer and the Saltburn actor are “both young and career-focused,” leading to their decision to step back.
The pair first sparked dating rumours in December 2023 and had not publicly confirmed their relationship. However, their connection was evident through joint appearances, including Keoghan cheering Carpenter on at her Coachella performance earlier this year and playing her love interest in the music video for her song “Please Please Please,” released in June.
While neither Carpenter nor Keoghan has commented on the breakup rumours, fans speculated about their relationship status following an anonymous message on X (formerly Twitter) that hinted at trouble between “an A-list singer who’s having her breakout year” and “her foreign boyfriend.” Similar rumours circulated in August after a post on DeuxMoi claimed the couple had split due to alleged infidelity. Keoghan appeared to dismiss those rumours by liking one of Carpenter’s Instagram posts shortly after.
Carpenter, known for keeping her personal life private, has spoken about her approach to relationships. In an August interview with The Guardian, she called working with Keoghan “one of the best experiences I’ve ever had,” praising his talent as an actor. She also addressed how her dating experiences often influence her music, saying: “I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about.”
Fans reacted to the breakup rumours with mixed emotions on X. One wrote, “The way he won’t stop embarrassing her,” while another commented, “Finally.” A third joked, “I’m ending it all.”
As of now, neither Carpenter nor Keoghan has publicly confirmed or denied the reports.
