Actor-comedian Seth Rogen has joined the cast of Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s upcoming project based on his childhood in Arizona. Rogen will play the role of Spielberg’s favourite uncle in the so-far untitled film.
It has also been reported that Michelle Williams is in talks to play a major part as well.
Williams is said to be up for the role of Spielberg’s mother whilst the project is still searching for the children of its cast. The search is underway to find young actors of multiple ages to play pivotal roles in the film, with one of them set to play the lead, inspired by a young Spielberg.
The iconic filmmaker co-wrote the script with Tony Kushner, who previously worked with the director on ‘Munich’ and ‘Lincoln’. There are currently not many plot details available for the project, other than that it will portray a version of Spielberg’s childhood and teenage years.
It will be set in Arizona in the late 50s and early 60s. The film will also examine the character’s relationship with his parents. It is set to begin production this summer and is expected to release in 2022.
Before then, however, Spielberg’s version of ‘West Side Story’ is set to premiere on December 10, 2021. The upcoming movie adaptation of the iconic Broadway musical stars Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler as Tony and Maria. Ariana Debose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, Corey Stoll, Brian d’Arcy James, Rita Moreno, and Curtiss Cook also star in the project.
