Research has shown that Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities have been disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
A drive initiated by Waltham Forest is urging everyone who do not have Covid-19 symptoms to continue to test twice a week because Covid is still with us.
A host of community groups across east London joined the campaign in support of keeping families and communities safe.
In a local engagement event organised by the council on Wednesday 9 June 2021, members from Waltham Forest Women’s Network, Muslim Aid, Tamil Sangam group, and community radio NuSound joined resident volunteers to give out free rapid test kits, information leaflets, and help and advice around testing.
The event is part of the council’s campaign to reach diverse communities, particularly south Asian people who are more likely to test positive for Covid become severely ill and die than any other minority ethnic group in the UK.
1 in 3 people who have Covid-19 do not show symptoms but can still spread the virus without knowing it. Rapid test kits are quick and easy to use at home and you get a test result in 30 minutes.
