Valli Opticians based in Huddersfield, are set to host a family friendly virtual sponsored walk in support of Kirklees Visual Impairment Network (KVIN).
KVIN is a fantastic cause in raising awareness and empowering those who are part of the organisation.
Established in 2008, KVIN is a network of staff, volunteers and service users who help break down stereotypes of people with sight loss and encourages them to reach their full potential.
They offer emotional support, guidance and friendship as well as providing peer support to help people with visual impairments learn to effectively use and make the most of technology such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home and various apps for phones and tablets.
As the charity is user-led, it is run by people with visual impairments and is a real lifeline for people who think they have to give up doing all the things they like due to sight loss.
Husband and wife Rachel and Moin Valli are the owners of Valli Opticians and they have organised the walk known as ‘Valli Rally 2020’ which is set to take place during National Eye Health Week (21-27 September 2020)
Moin Valli, managing director at Valli Opticians and Vice Chair at KVIN said: “We are excited to host our annual Valli Rally to help raise important funds to support the work of KVIN in Huddersfield.”
“This year, it will be a virtual walk and to participate, all you have to do is sign up and pledge how far you can walk to help us achieve our goal of walking the 2020 miles.”
Moin said the walk is accessible for all and not just for people living in Kirklees and they are hoping to raise more than last year.
“We have two targets. We are looking to raise £7500 and we are looking to walk a collective 2020 miles, in the year 2020.”
Moin likes to focus on the positives in any situation no matter how challenging the event.
He said, “Yes, Valli Rally will be different this year due to COVID-19. In a departure from previous years where we met for a countryside trek in Huddersfield, this year’s event will be run as a virtual sponsored walk during National Eye Health Week.
“You can do the walk in your local area, in your back garden or even on a treadmill in your living room.”
Mr and Mrs Valli are now calling for individuals and businesses across Huddersfield to get involved and register for the walk, which takes place during National Eye Health Week.
