DC stirred up some excitement when it dropped a new 30-second TV spot for Superman: Legacy on 26 January, offering a fresh look into the world of James Gunn’s vision for the iconic superhero. While the majority of the footage mirrors the first trailer, it also includes some new surprises for viewers.

Among the highlights is the first glimpse of Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) and David Corenswet’s Superman as he takes his iconic flight over snow-capped mountains. The teaser also features a reworked version of John Williams’ classic Superman score, playing over a previously shown scene of Clark Kent/Superman, bruised and calling out for Krypto the Superdog’s help before becoming the hero protecting a young girl.

While many fans expressed excitement over the new footage, particularly the flight scene, some were less enthusiastic. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “My most anticipated movie. It looks incredible. DC Studios,” while another added, “I’m really excited to see it @JamesGunn!!!”

However, several fans voiced concerns over the last flying shot, with some feeling there was something “off” about David Corenswet’s portrayal. One user commented, “I’m very excited for this movie but there is something about that last shot that I don’t like. It doesn’t look like David, when I first saw it I thought it was AI. Compare these two images—they look like two different people.”

Superman: Legacy, a reboot of the Superman franchise, is set to explore the Man of Steel’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. Described as the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, Superman is guided by human kindness in a world that views kindness as old-fashioned.

The film is slated for release on 11 July, 2025.
