Actor-turned-politician R. Sarathkumar and his wife, actor-producer Radhikaa Sarathkumar, have been sentenced to a one-year jail term in a cheque bouncing case.
The case was brought forward by loan company, radiance Media Private Limited. The company, which is known for lending money to fund film productions, stated that the company Magic Frames, in which Sarathkumar and his wife were partners, had borrowed large sum of money from them in 2014. In 2017, when the company and the pair repayed the money via cheque, the cheque bounced.
Earlier, the couple had appealed the case to seek the suspension of the sentence. However, in 2019, a judge declined to prevent criminal proceedings in the case and the trial was fast tracked. Today (April 7), it was decided that the couple would be sentenced to a year’s imprisonment.
Sarathkumar is a Telugu actor best known for his work in the 90s blockbuster ‘Nattamai’. Since the 90s, the actor has involved himself in the world of state politics. In the 2000s he even launched his own political party entitled the ‘All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi’.
