Today marked the final episode of Disney+ revolutionary WandaVision. The series has become a cultural sensation and is now one of the service’s most popular shows to date, following just behind ‘The Mandalorian’. The final episode debuted today on Disney+ and fans everywhere were crazy about the twists and reveals, especially the two post-credit cut scenes that Marvel have made a trademark for themselves.
However, WandaVision is just the first in a line-up of planned Marvel television series. Coming in June is the Tom Hiddleston fronted Loki series, which will see the villain (or rather semi-redeemed anti-hero) taking the reins as the lead for the very first time. Next up, though, is the long-awaited The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This action series will see Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who are best known as Captain America’s comrades and close friends, taking control. Following in the steps of WandaVision is certainly going to be a big ask for the series, but the series promises enough jam-packed and breath-taking set pieces to make sure everyone is pleased.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series. We do have to warn you about major Marvel spoilers, however, so don’t read if you’re not up to date with the films!
The series will focus on Sam’s decision to take on the Captain America mantle
As opposed to the mystery of WandaVision, we do know that the plot of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will mainly focus on Sam’s decision on whether or not to become Captain America. As all Marvel fans will know, at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers made the decision to step down from his role of Captain America and went back to live his life on his own terms. The end of the film saw Steve speaking to Sam and handing over the iconic red, white and blue shield over to his friend. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will pick up with Sam after Endgame, and there are a few people in the show who certainly aren’t happy about the choice of Sam for America’s ultimate hero. The government would rather create a full new Captain America with John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and are combating against Sam (and we know from previous films that Marvel certainly don’t shy away from the “corrupt executives” trope!).
Don Cheadle’s War Machine will be making an appearance
Following the death of Iron Man at the end of Avengers: Endgame, many fans were left to wonder when Tony Stark’s best friend James “Rhodey” Rhodes would fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, however, Don Cheadle confirmed on the BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast recently that his War Machine would be making an appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The ‘Rwanda’ actor stated, “That’s some of the fun of the MCU, that we all get to show up in each other’s stories, and there are ways that we’re cross-platforming these characters. And they become storylines, sometimes, in the movies. And then these storylines in the movies become storylines in the shows.”
“By all imagination, it’s completely open-ended; this can go anywhere. So it’s great. I can’t wait to get in the room with the writers and for us to figure out how all those things happen. You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show, so it could be a lot.”
The news led to much excitment online and many were left to ponder how the character will fit into the series’ plot.
Daniel Bruhl is returning as the big bad Helmut Zemo this series following his appearance in Captain America: Civil War
Daniel Bruhl’s return as Helmut Zemo was one of the big surprise announcements of the show. The villain has not been seen since Captain America: Civil War, when Zemo was imprisoned for his crimes. We are currently unaware of anything that has happened to Zemo since that point and the announcement that he would feature in the series left people wondering what occurred. Did he escape? Did something go wrong with his imprisonment after Thano’s snap? Was he killed and brought back or stuck inside for five years? Its almost certain that these questions will be answered once the show begins, but, for now, were completely in the dark about Helmut Zemo.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere on Disney+ on March 19. You can check out the trailer for the series below.
