No matter how many awards and accolades one gathers within the fraternity however the race for Oscars holds a special place.  However, while it has been unattainable over the years but the quest to be even in the nomination of Academy Awards has been a sign of victory.

As we inch closer to the Academy awards 2023, we discover 301 feature films that are eligible for this year’s Oscars.

Indian films that are on the race includes SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara.

Further the list also includes Pan Nalin’sChhello Show (Last Film Show), which is India’s official Oscar entry, Marathi films Me Vasantrao, Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi, R Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Iravin Nizhal and Kannada movie Vikrant Rona.

Documentaries All That Breathes by Shaunak Sen and Kartiki Gonsalves’ The Elephant Whisperers are also part of the list.

The global representation of and Indian film is a sheer triumph however the above list of movies will have to make a cut the final nomination of the Academy Awards, which will be announced on January 24.

The Kashmir Files has been a contentious topic since its release, and the film has once again sparked debate on Twitter, as a propaganda film is one of the 301 films eligible for this year’s Oscars.

The story of Kashmir Files is set in the 1990’s and follows the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits.

While the film has been dogged by storm, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid recently slammed Vivek Agnhotri’s film The Kashmir Files, calling it “vulgar” and “propaganda” at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Well, films have their own destiny, and only time will tell if they win Academy Awards, but the prevalent validation always comes from the audience, and if one has managed to conquer that, then you have already won the battle.
