In the world of celebrity couples, few names evoke as much fascination as Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan. The pair, married since 2007, have been the subject of persistent rumours regarding their relationship status, fuelled by public appearances, social media interactions, and more. Following the pair’s silence on the issue, speculation resurges with each new event, sparking a storm of discussion across social media.
Rumours began swirling late last year when Abhishek was seen at public events without his wedding ring, a detail avidly noted by fans and media alike. The same year, Aishwarya celebrated her birthday with a noticeably restrained birthday post from Abhishek, and during her cake-cutting ceremony, she was only accompanied by her mother and daughter, Aaradhya. This absence of any other Bachchan family members did not go unnoticed, fuelling whispers of marital trouble.
Then, in July 2024, the rumours resurfaced in full force when Aishwarya and Abhishek attended Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding separately. While the rest of the Bachchan family attended together, Aishwarya arrived alone with Aaradhya, a detail that instantly caught the public’s attention. On X, formerly known as twitter, discussions erupted with comments like, “It seems like their divorce is in process or they have already gotten divorced…just thinking.”
Another one commented; “He was with them in the function. Stop unnecessary rumours.”
Adding to this one user chimed in; “Even if they are separated, there has to be two sides to the story. And Abhishek is seemingly a true gentleman.”
Adding fuel to the fire, rumours of an alleged connection between Abhishek and actress Nimrat Kaur surfaced, with fans questioning if their onscreen camaraderie in Dasvi may have crossed boundaries. Though unconfirmed, these claims were bolstered by fan reactions online. Some X users criticised Abhishek harshly: “It’s sad to see Aishwarya Rai still trying to fit in with Abhishek Bachchan and his family. Abhishek doesn’t even show the courtesy to be with his wife & daughter”
Despite the couple’s attempts to maintain some privacy, an insider close to the Bachchan family voiced frustration over the rumours. “There is not an iota of truth to these rumours,” the source told Zoom, “We wonder why the lady (Kaur) has not issued a denial. Abhishek is keeping mum as there is already so much happening in his life at the moment. He has been advised to stay completely out of any controversy,” says the angry source.
Nimrat Kaur eventually responded to these allegations, telling The Times of India that she had decided to ignore the gossip to stay focused on her career. “People will say what they want,” Nimrat said, adding, “It is not possible to stop such gossip, and I prefer to focus on my work.”
However, Abhishek hasn’t exactly remained silent on the topic—at least not directly. On 4 November, the night before promoting his upcoming film, I Want to Talk, he shared a cryptic story on Instagram, writing, “While AI is in trend, remember common sense was and will always be your best comeback to natural stupidity! Presenting #Blabberhead, he ‘talks’ sense.” Many fans speculated this was a clapback to a viral deepfake video falsely showing Abhishek confirming a divorce.
He also posted another quote, which many believe could be related to the rumours, though others think it’s likely promotional for his film. The actor added, “Common sense is like deodorant; the people who need it the most never use it.”
While Aishwarya and Abhishek have not addressed the situation directly, public interest shows no sign of waning, especially as every new action—from event appearances to Instagram likes—adds fresh fuel to the story.
