In celebration of its 20-year anniversary, Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic film Veer-Zaara is returning to theatres worldwide with a special addition: the re-release will feature the previously deleted song Yeh Hum Aa Gaye Hai Kahaan, marking the first time audiences will experience the song within the film itself.

The much-anticipated re-release will roll out on over 600 screens across markets in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and for the first time, regions like Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, starting 7 November.

The song Yeh Hum Aa Gaye Hai Kahaan has long fascinated fans. Composed using unreleased tunes by the legendary Madan Mohan from the 1950s, the track carries the essence of classic romance with a modern touch by Lata Mangeshkar and Udit Narayan. According to sources from Madan Mohan’s official website, the song was initially conceived as a dream sequence that Veer and Zaara would recall in flashbacks. Parts of the song were even filmed in Switzerland, but due to the film’s extensive runtime, it was cut from the theatrical release. While it was featured in the DVD’s deleted scenes, the re-release marks the song’s cinematic debut.

Nelson D’Souza, Vice President of International Distribution at Yash Raj Films, shared the team’s motivation for the re-release: “Veer-Zaara has a cult following across the globe, and on the occasion of its 20-year anniversary, we wanted to re-release this iconic love story for fans to savour worldwide. From the chatter on social media to fan requests at our offices worldwide, we could feel the demand for this decision. This move by YRF is our tribute to the fans of the film.”

Fans of the romantic epic are expressing widespread excitement on social media, especially for the inclusion of the deleted song. One Twitter user wrote, “Exciting news! Veer-Zaara is a timeless classic, and I can’t wait to see it back on the big screen with the added footage. Here’s hoping for a full house in all the international markets!” Another fan remarked, “Honestly speaking, I thought the Gen Z would not be interested in this film, but surprisingly, even they are willing to see this on the big screen.”

Redditors have also chimed in with anticipation. One user commented, “I just watched it in September when it re-released earlier. Will rush to the theatre for this new song now!” Another reminisced, “All the songs are gems, but I never heard this song until my dad played it in the car back in 2008. I had heard all the other songs on TV but heard this for the first time four years after the movie came out.” The song’s melody, which captures the essence of love and romance, seems to evoke nostalgia and the joy of rediscovering a piece of film history for many fans.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, Amitabh Bachchan, and Hema Malini, Veer-Zaara remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated romances. Directed by the late Yash Chopra and written by Aditya Chopra, the film broke box-office records worldwide in 2004, grossing approximately £3.7 million internationally, and was awarded Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the National Film Awards.

With this re-release, Veer-Zaara is set to bring its magical love story to new and old fans alike, many of whom are eager to experience the story’s poignant emotions, along with the joy of Yeh Hum Aa Gaye Hai Kahaan on the big screen. As one fan on Reddit put it, “The song perfectly captures the lightness and butterflies of being in love.”
