Vidhu Vinod Chopra has returned to the director’s chair after three long years with a story that might relate to a million hearts.

After Shikara in 2023, the director is returning with 12th Fail, a story based on an Indian civil service officer Manoj Kumar Mishra, who beat all odds of poverty and other challenges to become India’s respected civil servant in the Police services.

Starring Mirzapur fame Vikrant Massey, the trailer paints a startling picture for the entrance exams for Indian Civil Services, UPSC, one of the toughest examinations in the world, where roughly 13 lakh students sit, competing for just around 12,000 vacancies.

Within these 13 lakh, a section of students come from a non-English educational background, and this section face a linguistic challenge too to clear the exam.

Vikrant Massey, who plays Manoj Kumar Mishra, is one of the students from the non-English background, termed in the movie as ‘Hindi-Medium’ student.

The hard hitting trailer, revolves around the struggle students go through while preparing for the examinations and the mammoth amount of competition among each other.

12th fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra releases 27 October 2023.
