England captain Wayne Rooney scored from the penalty spot against minnows San Marino to go level with Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal scoring record of 49 goals for England.
Rooney who has been in disappointing form for his club side Manchester United so far this season , took advantage of a very bit of generous refereeing to go level with Charlton’s record. The penalty that was awarded to England was not a penalty – but I am sure Rooney who has now scored 49 goals in 106 will not mind that.
United captain Rooney has the chance to be the outright leading goal scorer for his country if he scores against Switzerland on Tuesday.
