Alia Bhatt’s thriller Jigra is all set to make its way to Netflix, with the streaming platform announcing its official release date as 6 December. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film also stars Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa, and Vivek Gomber in key supporting roles. Produced under the banner of Dharma Productions and presented by Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions, Jigra will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix.
The film follows the story of Satya Anand (Alia Bhatt), a devoted sister who embarks on a harrowing journey to rescue her brother, Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina). As the story unfolds, Satya finds herself thrust into a dangerous world of high-stakes drama, with every moment bringing her closer to the edge. Jigra has been co-written by Debashish Irengbam and director Vasan Bala himself.

While the film has garnered significant interest for its unique premise and strong performances, it faced an underwhelming reception at the box office after its release during the Dussehra period. Despite having strong performances and a gripping storyline, Jigra became Alia’s lowest opener since her 2014 film Highway. The underperformance led to widespread discussions about the film’s potential and what it could have achieved had it received the recognition it deserved on the big screen. Fans, however, are optimistic that the film will find a new audience on Netflix, allowing it to reach its full potential.
Following the announcement of the OTT release date, fans took to social media to express their excitement. One fan commented, “Definitely watching this one. Cos I haven’t watched this in theatres. Thank you for releasing soon on Netflix.” Another expressed their hope that Jigra would now receive its rightful due: “Hopefully this film gets its rightfully deserved due now… cause it hurts to see such a well-made film not getting the recognition.”
However, the film has not been without its controversies. One of the main points of contention came from actor and filmmaker Divya Khossla Kumar, who accused Jigra of having a plot similar to her own film Savi. Khossla Kumar also made serious allegations about Alia Bhatt, claiming that the actress manipulated box-office numbers by allegedly purchasing tickets for her own film, thus creating “fake collections” to deceive the public. These accusations have further fuelled the conversation around the film and its performance in theatres.
Despite these challenges, the announcement of Jigra’s OTT release has reignited interest in the film. With the support of Netflix, Jigra has the chance to reach a wider audience, and many fans are hopeful it will gain the recognition it deserves. As the countdown to 6 December begins, viewers can look forward to experiencing the intense thriller in the comfort of their homes.
