The WOW (Women of the World) Foundation will host a free 24-hour online festival between the 27-28 June with many high-profile speakers and guests taking part.
The event, WOW 24 Global, will feature actor Patrick Stewart and The Duchess of Cornwall, President of The WOW Foundation, who will speak about domestic abuse.
Indian disability and gender rights activist Nidhi Goyal; and South African politician Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will also be talking to WOW founder Jude Kelly.
The charity will be focussing on the topic ‘Women and Girls in a Time of Crisis’ and the event will highlight the achievements of women and girls around the world.
International guests will also be providing national and international views on current events like the impact of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jude Kelly said: “Now more than ever, we need to find community; to connect women, civil society and governments and make women’s stories central to future planning across the globe.
“This is an opportunity to join hands, listen and ask what do we need to change, and how, like many others, The WOW Foundation has had to go from live events to full online broadcasting in a matter of weeks, adapting to the technical challenge of lockdown.
“It is important that we utilise digital resources to connect women and girls in a time where existing issues of gender inequalities are exposed and exacerbated by the COVID- 19 crisis.”
WOW 24 Global is a free event and aims to unite women and girls from across the world. The festival can be streamed through the Global Channel or the Local Channel.
The WOW Foundation was founded in 2018. The charity works in association with the Southbank Centre, London, and organises festivals to raise awareness about global issues facing women and girls.
