Every frame of the much awaited “Archies” trailer offered a breath of fresh air, making it worth the wait. With its distinctive Indian version of the well-loved classic seen through the eyes of the Anglo-Indian community, this charming teaser transports viewers on a nostalgic trip. The gang of youngsters struggle with the intricacies of love, heartbreak, friendship, and rebellion against the backdrop of the 1960s in the made-up hilltop town of Riverdale.

The main characters, including the lively Veronica (Suhana), the charming Betty (Khushi), and the captivating Archie (Agastya), are introduced in this over two-minute-long clip. They travel through the highs and lows of adolescence with a blend of style, music, and fun. Like many good stories, though, there’s a twist that forces the friends to come together stronger than before in order to protect their town and community and, in the process, find their true selves.

The trailer takes people right away to Riverdale, a peaceful mountain town in the early 1960’s. When Veronica (Suhana Khan) comes back from London, she sets off a chain of events. Meanwhile, Archie (Agastya Nanda), becomes the centre of both Veronica and Betty’s (Khushi Kapoor) love.

As their lives take an unexpected turn, the group comes together to save Green Park, a beloved landmark in town that is about to be torn down by Veronica’s father, Mr. Lodge. At this important juncture, Dilton (Yuvraj Menda) and Reggie (Vedang Raina) step up, taking the lead and making a change that moves the story forward.

“Archies” trailer oozes an underlying freshness in its approach, emanating a light and happy tone which is  a welcome change from the normal environment seen in OTT entertainment.

Archies helmed by Zoya Akhtar will stream on Netflix from December 7.
