In exciting news, the makers of director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s highly anticipated action thriller Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, have officially unveiled Bollywood icon Aamir Khan’s character in the film.
Taking to its official X timeline, Sun Pictures, the production house backing the film, introduced Aamir Khan’s character and shared his look, writing: “#AamirKhan as Dahaa, from the world of #Coolie. #Coolie is all set to dominate IMAX screens worldwide from August 14th.” The first glimpse of Aamir Khan as Dahaa showcases the actor in a suave and sassy avatar, seen smoking a pipe. For the uninitiated, Aamir Khan is set to appear in a cameo role in the film.
Only a week earlier, the production house had announced a change in the title of the Hindi version of the film, from Majdoor to Coolie The Powerhouse.

Coolie, which is shaping up to be a gripping action thriller, boasts a star-studded ensemble. Alongside Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan, the film will feature Telugu star Nagarjuna, Kannada icon Upendra, Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir, and Tamil veteran Sathyaraj. It will also see performances from actors Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and Junior MGR in significant roles.
The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Girish Gangadharan. Editing duties are handled by Philomin Raj, while the production is spearheaded by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures.
A major highlight for fans is the reunion of Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj, who will share screen space after nearly 38 years. The two last appeared together in the Tamil blockbuster Mr Bharath, released in 1986, where Sathyaraj portrayed Rajinikanth’s father. Interestingly, Sathyaraj had previously declined offers to act in some of Rajinikanth’s earlier hits such as Enthiran and Sivaji.
Marking Rajinikanth’s 171st film, Coolie will centre around the theme of gold smuggling. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has confirmed that while the film is highly anticipated, it will remain a standalone project and not be a part of his widely celebrated Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
With an array of powerhouse performers and a gripping storyline, Coolie is poised to take the box office by storm when it releases worldwide on IMAX screens from 14 August 2025.
