Abhishek Bachchan is set to make his return to the screen with Kaalidhar Laapataa, an emotional drama directed by Madhumita and produced by his long-time friend Nikkhil Advani. The film, also starring Daivik Bhagela and Zeeshan Ayyub, is slated to premiere on Zee5 on July 4.

In a conversation with ANI, Bachchan shared the reasons behind his immediate decision to join the project. “Nikkhil is a very old friend. He asked me to hear the story, and as soon as I did, I said yes,” he recalled. “The way Madhumita narrated it, the values, the emotional journey, and the themes of friendship and self-discovery really resonated with me.”

Described as a heartfelt exploration of life’s choices, relationships, and personal growth, Kaalidhar Laapataa offers more than just a conventional drama. “It’s about what you do for yourself, for your family, and understanding what’s right and wrong. These are the elements that made me want to be a part of it,” Bachchan explained.

Reflecting on his preparation for the role, Bachchan credited the writers and director Madhumita for laying a strong foundation. “Most of the character work was already on paper. Madhumita conducted workshops and rehearsals that made our jobs easier. She deserves the credit.”

He praised Madhumita’s meticulous direction, especially as this marks her Hindi film debut. “From casting and costumes to dialogue and pronunciation, she pays attention to every detail, and it shows,” he said.

Bachchan recently unveiled the film’s poster on social media, describing the narrative as “full of dreams, twists, and the people who make it worth it,” adding, “Sometimes, getting lost isn’t a detour, it’s where the real story begins.”

The poster features Bachchan in a bearded look, dressed in a checked shirt and pyjamas, perched on a tree in a rural setting, visually echoing the film’s introspective tone. Ahead of the announcement, he also shared a poetic line that hints at the film’s theme: “Main ek baar lapaata hona chahta hoon… ab zara sa waqt bas apne liye chahta hoon”, expressing a longing to get lost to find oneself.

Bachchan was last seen in Housefull 5, and will next appear in Raja Shivaji, directed by Riteish Deshmukh, set for release in multiple languages on May 1, 2026.
