‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ is getting a TV sequel from ‘The Last Of Us’ showrunner

0

HBO has confirmed that The Last Of Us showrunner Craig Mazin will be heading up a TV sequel to hit game Baldur’s Gate 3.

Set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, Baldur’s Gate 3 is an epic role-playing game that follows a plucky band of adventurers who are trying to cure themselves from the parasitic tadpole infecting their brain. While exploring the mediaeval fantasy land of the Forgotten Lands, players get caught up “in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in 2023 and went on to win every major Game Of The Year trophy. Despite the huge success, developers Larian Studios scrapped plans for a sequel and an expansion to work on two original games – including the recently-unveiled Divinity.

IP owners Wizards Of The Coast promised to keep the Baldur’s Gate story going though and now, it’s been confirmed a live-action TV show will pick up where Baldur’s Gate 3 left off.

As reported by Deadline, Craig Mazin will create, write, executive produce and showrun the TV adaptation, which will be a “continuation” of Baldur’s Gate 3 and “tell a story that takes place immediately after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, as the characters — old and new — are dealing with the ramifications of the events in the third game.” It’s believed Mazin has plans to reach out to the original voice cast about participating in the adaptation.

“After putting nearly 1000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards Of The Coast created,” Mazin said. “I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can’t wait to help bring Baldur’s Gate and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can, and I’m deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property.”

Larian isn’t involved in the adaptation though. “Crazy that a story that started out in a small hotel conference room eventually evolved into a narrative inspiring enough for it to become a HBO series,” Larian boss Swen Vincke wrote on X.

“The endings of Baldur’s Gate 3 were created so they could serve as narrative soil for new adventures. There’s plenty of directions they could go. I’m eager to find out which ones Craig and his team will pick. He’s reached out for a chat so we’ll have the opportunity to tell him our thoughts,” he added.

“Don’t FK With Subedaar” Prime Video campaign ignites massive buzz

0

Prime Video has made a thunderous first move for its upcoming Hindi action-drama Subedaar, and it’s impossible to ignore. With stark billboards carrying the bold warning “Don’t F****K with Subedaar”, the streamer has announced the arrival of a dark, uncompromising world that refuses to explain itself. At the centre of it all is Anil Kapoor, stepping into one of the most intense roles of his career as Subedaar Arjun Maurya.

The first look instantly sets the tone. Kapoor appears hardened, battle-scarred, and unflinching, a man shaped by years of service and conflict. The campaign signals that Subedaar is not just another action film, but a character-driven drama rooted in rage, duty, and survival. Prime Video’s no-holds-barred marketing approach suggests a story that will unfold on its own terms, demanding attention rather than seeking approval.

Directed by Suresh Triveni, known for his emotionally layered storytelling, Subedaar blends raw action with deeply personal stakes. The film revolves around a man who once fought for the nation but now finds himself battling enemies closer to home. As Arjun Maurya attempts to protect his family and preserve his sense of self, the lines between patriotism, violence, and personal justice begin to blur.

Adding further weight to the narrative is Radhikka Madan, who stars opposite Anil Kapoor in a key lead role. Her character is expected to bring emotional depth and contemporary perspective to the story, as she is expected to play the daughter of Kapoor.

Subedaar marks another significant collaboration between Prime Video and top-tier Bollywood talent, reinforcing the platform’s focus on large-scale, cinematic original films. While the makers are keeping plot details tightly under wraps, the early buzz indicates a high-stakes action-drama grounded in realism and inner conflict.

The film is slated to release soon on Prime Video, though an official premiere date is yet to be announced. With its aggressive teaser campaign and Anil Kapoor’s commanding transformation, Subedaar is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about streaming releases on the horizon.

Anurag Kashyap finally breaks silence on being named in the Epstein file

0

The Epstein Files have created quite a flutter across the world. Multiple high-profile names have been found in the files consisting of documents, pictures and videos detailing the criminal activities of convicted sex offender, late Jeffrey Epstein. In fact, tech tycoon Bill Gates, after his name surfaced, has had to clarify in an interview that he ‘regrets’ all contact he had with him.

However, when Hindustan Times reached out to Anurag, he denies any connection at all. He told HT City: “I’ve no clue about this. I get invitations as a speaker, about 15 a month. I rarely respond. Also, I have never been to Beijing in my life!”

He goes on to add that the nature of the documents itself isn’t convincing, “It’s some random email, that’s self explanatory . The click baits in my name are more popular than my films”, according to Hindustan Times.

For now, this puts a stop to all the speculations going aound about the Gangs of Wasseypur director, who has had a global footprint with his films being regulars at international festivals.

‘Lucy Letby’ Netflix docuseries uses “disturbing” AI actors to anonymise witnesses

The use of AI in a new Netflix documentary has drawn criticism from viewers on social media, who have described it as “distracting” and “freaky”.

As we already know, AI has been seen everywhere on the internet and some do not like the idea of using AI but some on the other hand, don’t mind it.

The documentary, The Investigation of Lucy Letby, examines the case of Letby, a former neonatal nurse convicted in 2023 of the murders of seven infants and the attempted murders of seven others between 2015 and 2016. She is currently serving a life sentence for the crimes. The synopsis of the film states that it uses “unseen footage and unheard insider accounts” to explore the case.

One aspect of the film that has drawn criticism is the use of AI to change the appearance of witnesses being interviewed, in order to anonymise them. Traditional documentaries tend to obscure faces, portray the interviewees in shadow, or use actors as stand-ins. The choice has left some viewers unsettled, and taking to social media to voice their displeasure.

“Not the AI rendered people in the Lucy Letby documentary, Netflix never do that again,” wrote one person on X (formerly Twitter), with another adding: “Netflix’s choice to use AI on interviewees’ faces was pretty disturbing. Might as well have just blurred their faces.”

One viewer said the choice was detrimental to the film, writing: “the new Lucy letby Netflix documentary features really freaky AI people talking for extended periods, apparently with the purpose of anonymising victims (fair to do) but instead just makes it look cheap and fake even though this is a real case with real victims.”

Another raised the ethical implications of using AI instead of human actors, amid an ongoing debate about the use of artificial intelligence in art excluding human creativity. “’Digitally anonymised’ = AI slop in a fucking documentary” they posted. “You can’t write it. USE ACTORS. PAY HUMANS.”

The Investigation Of Lucy Letby is available to watch on Netflix now.

Sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter said Ejiofor will portray an ex-con turned priest. Johansson is set to play the mother of a young character portrayed by Jacobi Jupe. Diane Lane also stars in the film.
