Crimewatch to Show Reconstruction of ‘Motiveless’ Doorstep Attack on Bingley Man

0

A reconstruction is due to be screened tonight of a seemingly motiveless crime in which a man was stabbed with a knife in Bingley.

The BBC’s Crimewatch progamme is due to screen a reconstruction of an incident in Wagon Lane Bingley on Saturday 15 December 2012 in which a man was seriously injured in a random attack on his own doorstep.

It will be shown in an episode tonight on BBC one as Police continue to appeal for information about the offence which was described as a ‘shocking’ by senior officers.

The stabbing took place at about 10.35pm on 15 December after the 53-year-old victim opened his door and was then stabbed in the neck on his doorstep.

Prior to the attack, the victim had been disturbed by a light outside and subsequently spoke to the suspect who claimed he had lost an item in his garden.

op_pettydale_efit_0Officers have since published a Efit of the attacker who is described as white, around 20 years old, 6 foot tall, of thin to medium build and wearing a distinctive, patterned woolen jumper.

He also had dark wavy hair, thick bushy eyebrows, was clean shaven and spoke in an articulate manner.

A Crimestoppers reward of £2,000 is available for any information which may lead to the identification and conviction of a suspect in the case.

Detective Chief Inspector Elizabeth Belton of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We continue to investigate and appeal for witnesses to what was a shocking and seemingly motiveless attack to a man on his own doorstep.

“I hope the reconstruction due to be screened on Crimewatch may help jog the memory of someone who perhaps saw the suspect that night or who may have information which could assist us.

“We have issued an Efit of the attacker and I would ask anyone who recognises the man pictured or can assist our enquiries to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

“Even the smallest missing detail could be vital in helping us locate the person responsible and take a dangerous individual off our streets.”

Bradford Burglary Gang Jailed For More Than Ten Years

0

Three men who carried out a series of burglaries on Bradford homes have been sentenced to more than 10 years in jail.

stefangrogan_mediumStefan Grogan, 23, of Leeds Road, Windhill, Shipley was sentenced to four and a half years, and Matthew Crooks, 24, of Back Lane, Wilsden was given three years and four months, after they pleaded guilty to nine burglaries last summer. Nathan Stapleton, 19, of Back Dale Street, Shipley was given two years and six months.

A fourth man, Joshua Clayton, 23, of Albert Street, Wilsden, will be sentenced at a later date after also pleading guilty.

During the spree, which lasted between 9 and 27 August last year, the men stole more than £20,000 of cash and jewellery, as well as laptops, designer watches and other items of sentimental value.

Detective Constable Richard Oxley, of the Western Area Burglary Team, said “Bringing these men to justice is a fantastic result and I am delighted the court has recognised the seriousness of their offending by punishing them in this way.

nathanstapleton_medium“None of them cared about the consequences of their actions – the houses they targeted were empty, with occupants either out (usually at work) or on holiday had to return to the devastation left behind.

“These men now have time in jail to consider the consequences of their actions.”

The men would break into sheds and take garden tools, which they used to force open rear doors and windows to enter the property.

matthewcrooks_medium“It is important that, wherever possible, householders secure their sheds and garages. As has been shown by this case, thieves will use tools inside to then break into the house, added DC Oxley.

Roy – the most stylish romantic thriller of 2015

0

Life imitates art and the lines between fiction and reality are blurred in 2015’s most stylish and engaging romantic thriller, ROY, releasing on 13th February.

Roy - PosterBhushan Kumar’s upcoming romantic thriller, Roy has created quite a stir; a film that has been much anticipated by the industry as well as the fans. The trailer crossed three million views on YouTube in just three days of its release followed by the songs, which have gained popularity across all media platforms.

After giving audiences several musical hits such as Aashiqui 2 and Yaariyan, Roy is said to be another feather in this renowned company’s hat. Debutant director Vikramjit Singh presents a handsome and accomplished lead cast comprising Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez in a slick, romantic thriller, set against a sweeping backdrop of international locales. Ankit Tiwari, Meet Bros Anjjan and Amaal Malik have created a beautifully haunting soundtrack to complement the air of onscreen mystery and suspense. Sure to be lauded by critics and a new generation of Indian cinema audiences, ROY marks a dynamic new turn in the Indian thriller genre.

PE1A1569While Ranbir Kapoor plays the title role, Arjun Rampal plays the role of a director and will be seen in a completely different look in Roy. The two are paired with Jacqueline Fernandez for the first time in a film. Jacqueline, who plays a double role, is seen romancing the two most dashing leading men of Bollywood in Roy. The actress will be seen in two different looks: elegantly glamorous and vivaciously hip, respectively.

T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar says, “We received a fabulous response to the theatrical trailer and the first song Sooraj Dooba Hai, which is now a party anthem for the season, followed by Tu Hai Ki Nahi and Chhitiyan Kallaiyan. The rest of the songs from the album have an individuality of their own and help the story go forward. The trailer helped us build enough curiosity on the characters each actor plays. Where Arjun is seen in a role and look he has never tried before, Jacqueline plays a double role for the first time and both are poles apart; while Ranbir plays a dynamic title role and he is supportive to the film and Vicky.”

Tia - ROY (1)‘ROY’ is the greatest thief ever known to man, having pulled off impossible heists in every part of the globe. ‘Kabir’ is a highly successful filmmaker. His first and second movie, Guns Part 1 and Guns Part 2, were based on this thief called ROY. Each part had a new heist; each ending was a different one. As the movie starts, Kabir Grewal is all set to go into production of his next movie, Guns Part 3, and the third part is also about his favorite character ‘ROY’. Will the story change this time? Will Roy finally reveal his face to the world? Will he mess up his heist or will he be caught?

Roy releases on 13th February, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar and Freeway Pictures, distributed in the UK by Filmonix.

New Police Unit Launches To Combat Human Trafficking

0

A dedicated team of detectives will combat human trafficking in West Yorkshire as part of efforts by police and the police and crime commissioner to tackle slavery gangs.

A new dedicated Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) is now in the process of becoming operational and will work both locally and nationally to target organised crime lords seeking to traffic people into West Yorkshire.

It has been formed as part of a range of initiatives underway in West Yorkshire to combat trafficking which has been identified as a key issue by West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark- Burns Williamson.

The new Human Trafficking Unit will be led by a dedicated detective inspector and staffed by specialist detectives and investigators who have all received training in investigating human trafficking related offending.

It is believed to be only the third of its kind in the country and has been set up as part of West Yorkshire’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) and will use the full range of tactics and techniques used by SOCU to investigate the most complex criminal cases.

Work by the detectives will be complemented by the start-up of a West Yorkshire Anti Trafficking Network (WYATN) with charity Hope For Justice which will train almost 3,500 police staff, as well as staff from partner agencies about how to spot the signs of trafficking and tackle it.

The training, which will be delivered by Hope for Justice in partnership with West Yorkshire Police, is being funded by cash secured by Mr Burns-Williamson from the Home Office.

Both initiatives follow a conference hosted last year by the PCC to spread awareness of human trafficking and to lay the groundwork for coordinated efforts to address the issue.

Detective Chief Inspector Warren Stevenson, of West Yorkshire Police, said the formation of a trafficking prevention unit showed how seriously authorities took the issue. He said “Human trafficking is a vile crime, and the resources we are dedicating to this new unit makes clear how determined we are to tackle it and bring those responsible to justice.

“Last year the number of human trafficking victims referred by West Yorkshire Police to the national referral mechanism doubled from 2013 from 42 to 84, showing the scale of the problem, but also demonstrating that victims are more willing to come to us.

“We have been working closely with Hope For Justice to support these victims and also secure evidence against those abusing them.”

The DCI said the new unit was intended to complement the work already ongoing within West Yorkshire Police to tackle trafficking, but to provide extra support for complex cases.

He added: “What this new team will do is give us extra capability to investigate the larger organised crime gangs bringing trafficking victims into our region, and to provide extra support to divisions managing human slavery investigations locally.

“By managing these cases through our Serious and Organised Crime Unit we can ensure all the resources we bring to bear to investigate the most complex conspiracies can be used to target traffickers operating at a national and international level.”

Mr Burns-Williamson said: “The creation of this dedicated response unit shows how West Yorkshire Police is leading the way in helping victims of human trafficking. “Those being helped by the unit will then be supported by the 3,500 people being trained by the WYATN to put their lives back together and it means victims are subsequently more confident in coming forward to the police.

“Training with front line staff around human trafficking has created an increased understanding of the signs of this crime and its implications, but there is more we need to do and this dedicated response unit is part of that, as it is targeting those perpetrators ruining people’s lives with this awful crime.

“They need to know they have no place to hide, and victims need to know that in West Yorkshire the resources and support are in place to protect them and that is why it was made a priority within this year’s Police and Crime Plan.”

Police Hope Deaf Youths Will Go Futsal Crazy

0

Police in Bradford are hoping deaf children will get a kick out of their latest project.

PC Jo Armstrong from the Bradford City Area Neighbourhood Team has teamed up with Sam Allen from the deaf community to launch futsal schemes for deaf youths to improve engagement between themselves and the police.

25-Cr-futsalFutsal is a version of five-a-side football and is played with a smaller, brighter and softer ball than the traditional game. Funding for the project was obtained from the lottery-funded scheme West Yorkshire Sportivate, which gives people aged 11 to 25 who are interested in sport the chance to experience it through a short programme of coaching.

The first eight-week scheme was launched at the Prism Youth Project in Girlington last week with PCSO Josh Wilson. A similar one is due to start at Hanson School Academy in Bradford next month.

Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, Mark Burns-Williamson, is due to visit the Prism Project this week to see for himself how the scheme is working.

PC Armstrong, said: “Similar futsal schemes have been successful with deaf children in Leeds, so we thought we’d bring the game to Bradford. It can be played by as many as 12 people at one time, with rolling substitutions, so it’s a fun game for anyone to learn.

“We hope the teenagers and the children will enjoy taking part in the sport, and that it will help to break down any barriers there might be between themselves and the police.”

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner said: “I am looking forward to visiting the scheme. Sports such as futsal are a great way to promote community cohesion and increase self-esteem, confidence and motivation.

“Futsal is an inclusive sport which builds on a lot of the skills behind football, with several ex-players moving on to careers as professional footballers. Participation in the scheme is free and I would urge young people from the deaf community to try it.”
