The Princess of Wales in remission from cancer, makes an emotional return to Royal Marsden

0

The Princess of Wales has revealed that she is now in remission from cancer, marking an emotional return to the Royal Marsden Hospital in west London, where she received treatment. In a heartfelt social media message, Catherine expressed her “relief” and reflected on the challenging journey of adjusting to a “new normal” after a cancer diagnosis.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she shared, signing the post with a simple “C.”

During her visit to the hospital, Catherine thanked the dedicated staff and empathetically spoke with cancer patients, reassuring them that despite the tough journey, there is “light at the end of that tunnel.” It is the first time that the princess has confirmed she is in remission, following her earlier announcement in March of her diagnosis and her completion of chemotherapy in September. She had previously expressed her focus on staying cancer-free.

Cancer Research UK defines “remission” as a state where there is no sign of cancer following treatment, though some cancers may recur, which is why the term “remission” is used rather than “cure.”

In her social media message, Catherine also expressed gratitude for the “exceptional” care provided by the Royal Marsden, thanking both the hospital and the individuals who supported her and her family during this time. “My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more,” she wrote.

During her visit, the princess spoke directly to cancer patients, offering empathy based on her own experiences. She shared with a woman undergoing chemotherapy, “It’s really tough… It’s such a shock… Everyone said to me, ‘please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference’.”

As Catherine arrived at the hospital as a visitor rather than a patient, she reflected on the long-term effects of cancer treatment, noting that the recovery process is not always as simple as it seems. “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge,” she said, acknowledging that there are lingering side effects that patients often continue to face even after treatment ends.

When asked how she was feeling, Catherine confirmed she was doing well but highlighted that recovery is a complex journey. “Sometimes from the outside, we all think you’ve finished treatment and you go back to things. But it’s hard to get back to normal,” she remarked.

This visit marks Catherine’s first major engagement of 2025, where she not only visited the hospital but also took on the role of joint royal patron of the Royal Marsden, alongside Prince William, who has been a patron for some time. The hospital, which treats 59,000 patients annually, was founded in 1851 as a specialist cancer hospital. Catherine now joins a lineage of royal patronage, following in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Will Madhur Bhandarkar revive Inspector Ghalib with Shah Rukh Khan?

0

Speculation is building around the fate of Inspector Ghalib, the long-delayed project that was set to see a collaboration between filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The movie, which was intended to explore the life of a police officer, was discussed by the two before 2018, but never materialised.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Madhur Bhandarkar opened up about the project, revealing that he still has the script and intends to revisit it in the future. “It was a very good script. I have always wanted to make that film; it’s about a cop in UP. The setting of the film was great,” said the filmmaker.

The film’s fate was altered by the onset of the pandemic and a subsequent loss of contact, leading Madhur to shelve the project. However, he expressed his desire to bring it to life when the time feels right. “I’ll work on it. I may revive it someday when I feel I should make Inspector Ghalib. Definitely, I will make it,” he confirmed.

As for his current work, Madhur revealed he is working on two new projects. One is a hard-hitting story based in Mumbai, while the other, titled Wives of Bollywood, will delve into the lives of women in the film industry. The latter, which Madhur described as “Page 3 on steroids,” will offer a contemporary and fictionalised perspective on the ups and downs faced by Bollywood wives.

Despite the setbacks, fans are hopeful that Madhur Bhandarkar and Shah Rukh Khan’s collaboration on Inspector Ghalib may finally come to fruition in the near future.

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency banned in Bangladesh amid political tensions

0

Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency has been banned in Bangladesh, with strained political relations between the two nations cited as the primary reason. The film, scheduled for release in Indian cinemas, delves into India’s tumultuous Emergency period declared by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.

A source familiar with the situation explained, “The decision to ban Emergency in Bangladesh is rooted in current diplomatic dynamics rather than the film’s content itself.”

The movie portrays India’s involvement in Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence, highlighting support for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of Bangladesh, and depicting his later assassination by extremists—a portrayal believed to have influenced the ban.

Emergency has faced a series of delays before its Indian release. Initially slated for 6 September, 2024, the film’s debut was postponed after failing to secure a clearance certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite resolving these hurdles, further controversies led to another delay, and the film is now set for release in India on 17 January, 2025.

This ban underscores how political climates continue to affect cultural exchanges between India and Bangladesh. Although Pushpa 2 reportedly faced release issues, films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Stree 2 successfully premiered in Bangladesh, thanks to the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 released in both countries simultaneously on 1 November, 2024, while Stree 2 premiered in Bangladesh in October 2024, according to the Dhaka Tribune.

The Emergency ban reflects ongoing challenges for cross-border entertainment amid fluctuating diplomatic ties.

Rakesh Roshan’s comments on south Cinema “not progressing” spark backlash

0

filmmaker Rakesh Roshan’s recent remarks about South Indian cinema have triggered a wave of criticism on social media, reigniting the South vs Bollywood debate. In an interview with Times Now, Roshan acknowledged the technical advancements in South cinema but criticised its storytelling approach, stating, “South films are very grounded. They continue with the old-school format of song-action-dialogue-emotions. They’re not progressing. Technically, they are, but storytelling-wise, they’re sticking to the same formulas that work. They’re successful because they’re not breaking any path.”

Roshan contrasted this with Bollywood’s approach, asserting that the Hindi film industry takes creative risks. “We are breaking paths,” he added. “After I made Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, I didn’t want to make romantic films again. Then I did Koi… Mil Gaya. After that, I made Rohit (Hrithik Roshan’s character) a superhero. These are the challenges we took. They don’t take risks. They play on safe grounds.”

The comments did not sit well with social media users, many of whom perceived them as dismissive and arrogant. On Reddit, one user commented, “Bollywood’s own arrogance is its downfall.” Another remarked, “Regional cinema is far more inventive than commercial Bollywood. Roshan likely doesn’t follow anything beyond popular cinema.”

Some X users cited films like Eega, where a housefly is the protagonist, to highlight South cinema’s creativity. “Can Bollywood produce a hit movie with a fly as the hero?” questioned a user. Others pointed out that Bollywood itself heavily relies on testosterone-driven action films like Jawan, Gadar 2, Pathaan, and Animal. “One Stree 2 doesn’t change that,” said another.

Amid the backlash, Roshan’s 2000 blockbuster Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai was re-released in cinemas to celebrate its 25 year anniversary. The romantic drama, which marked Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel’s debuts, was a massive hit and catapulted both actors to stardom.

Blake Lively’s alleged support for Hugh Jackman reportedly upsets his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness

0

Deborra-Lee Furness is reportedly “fuming” over her split from Hugh Jackman, with a former friend allegedly becoming a surprising source of contention. Sources claim that Furness is upset with Blake Lively for allegedly “siding” with Jackman following his recent public relationship reveal with Sutton Foster.

Jackman, who separated from Furness in September 2023 after nearly three decades of marriage, has been seen showing affection for Foster. Radar Online cites Furness’s belief that Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, were aware of Jackman and Foster’s developing romance long before it became public.

“She knew they would side with Hugh when they split,” an insider revealed, “but what has disturbed Deb is the very real possibility that Ryan and Blake must have known about Sutton.”

Reports suggest that Furness found it difficult to bond with Lively due to their differences, although they were reportedly on good terms. However, the idea that Lively and Reynolds may have kept quiet about Jackman and Foster’s connection has allegedly upset Furness. Another insider added, “They kept their lips sealed out of loyalty to Hugh. Despite their longtime relationship with Deb, they chose to cover for him. Now she is seething with rage over being the last to know about the clandestine affair. Deb feels blindsided.”

The situation escalated when Jackman and Foster were seen walking hand-in-hand to dinner in Santa Monica, showing clear public affection just days after Jackman attended Foster’s performance in Once Upon a Mattress.

Insiders claim that Jackman and Foster grew close while working together on the 2022 Broadway revival of The Music Man, during which both were still married. This has further complicated matters.

“This brings her to the conclusion he didn’t want to save their marriage, and that’s what hurts the most,” one source stated. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. But there was an affair and overlap,” another insider alleged.

Furness and Jackman had been married for 27 years and raised two children together. “Deb and Hugh are doing everything they can to keep things amicable, but it’s not easy,” a source mentioned last month.
