Police Visit Mosque For Training.

0

Police in Wakefield have been given an insight into the Islamic faith after a series of training sessions at a local mosque.

Officers from Wakefield Division have attended one of six sessions being held at the Sawafiyyah Jamia mosque, Wakefield, to increase understanding of the Islamic faith as well as forging local contacts.

The officers were given an insight into Islam as well as a tour of the mosque and information about its role in the community.

PC Richard Marsh, Wakefield District Police Community Engagement Officer, said: “The aim of the training is to equip officers with a basic understanding of Islam and how we interact with our communities. It is a tailor-made training package for the police and will explain areas of the Muslim culture and religion in a way that will be useful in day to day policing.as33 web mosque police

“The police are about more than just enforcement – we need to engage fully with our communities. I feel this kind of training will go a long way in building relations with the minority ethnic population in Wakefield and show a true desire to become an effective and integral part of the communities we work in.”

Chief Superintendent Andy Battle, Divisional Commander for Wakefield police said:These training sessions have many benefits for the police, our partners and the local Muslim community. They give the opportunity for all staff and not just our Neighbourhood Policing Teams to gain a valuable insight around the faith of Islam. In addition we will be able to show how we engage with all our communities through our neighbourhood style approach to policing.”

Ghap Shap with Akshay Kumar on ‘Khiladi 786’

0

Akshay Kumar in Khiladi 786Bollywood supremo Akshay Kumar will once again please his adoring fans worldwide when he returns, after an absence of 12 years, to his famous Khiladi franchise with Khiladi 786.
The film sees Akshay flexing his box office pulling power as well as his brawn. He pulls no punches as he high-kicks his way through some truly spectacular stunts, harnessing his considerable experience of martial arts and extreme sports to make the film a truly visual feast of high-caliber action and stunts galore all sprinkled with some classic ‘Akshay humour’.
We caught up with Akshay to talk about his return to the role.

You’re returning to the Khiladi role after 12 years, how does it feel to be back?

From Khiladi to Khiladi 786 my journey has been a full circle and that circle will keep re-creating itself as there is still so much to do, so much to learn and so much to deliver to my fans. Khiladi made me believe in my work and that I could have a career in this line of work. Khiladi 786 is my gift to the millions of fans who have supported me throughout these years, through thick and thin. It’s only because of them and their solid faith in me that I have carried on, to the extent now that I am continuing the Khiladi legacy after a long time and bringing to them Khiladi 786.

With Khiladi 786, you return back to action comedy. What do you enjoy the most – action, comedy or romance?

To be honest I love all kinds of genres but I must say I have always had the passion for action and it’s great to get back in to this genre and what better way than through a long awaited Khiladi film. Khiladi 786 is packed with full on masala action and plenty of great comedy, i even managed to squeeze in some romance too!! I’m a complete adrenaline junkie and whether I’m doing action in the reel life or real, it’s always been a part of my life and my career. But I always experiment and entertain my fans whether through a family drama like Namastey London, comedy such as Houseful 2 or an action film like Rowdy.

Tell us about Khiladi 786…what can we expect from the movie?

Khiladi 786 is comedy and action personified – so expect loads of fun and frolics and romance and drama along the way! Khiladi 786 is my gift to the millions of fans who have supported me throughout these years, through thick and thin. It’s only because of them and their solid faith in me that I have carried on, to the extent now that I am continuing the Khiladi legacy after a long time and bringing to them Khiladi 786.
It is said that many heroines were selected for Khiladi 786 – Diana Penty, Nargis and then Asin was chosen.

All of them are from the recent breed of actresses. How is it that any actress opposite you makes a good pair?

Asin is a great actress. She is a talented performer, who always gives her complete best to any project she is involved with. We had a great time making Khiladi 786, and hopefully our on-screen friendship and great working relationship will be visible to all our fans who come to see the film.

The music for the film has been very well received already, what do you enjoy about the tunes?

Himesh is really a music maestro and he has done a fantastic job. The songs are really being appreciated and one of my favourites is Sari Sari Raat – it’s a die-hard romantic track and for all those romantics out there. See this film has a bit of everything!

What was it like working with Himesh Reshammiya? How is he as a person?

Himesh is really a music maestro and he has done a fantastic job. As a person he’s a great individual – such a creative person its unbelievable. It was a joy to work with him

Tell us about the X factor of Khiladi 786? What shall your fans expect from you in Khiladi 786?

Me jumping off tall buildings, making the fans cry with laughter and getting the girl in the end … what more could you ask for?! Lol! Khiladi786 is a culmination of all the other 7 Khiladi films so you will see combination of romance, drama, comedy and of course action. Khiladi 786 is my gift to the millions of fans who have supported me throughout these years, through thick and thin.

What are you going to be up to in the future? Will you continue this run of Masala hits?

I am looking forward to 2013 as I have a busy year ahead of me; Special Chabis is coming up, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Part 2, Boss. Currently I am tied up with my Hindi film projects including my own productions from my new production company Grazing Goat Pictures. I am a big believer of delivering entertaining masala films as that’s what the audience at large want to see when they visit a cinema. Some escapism, humour, emotion, action, drama and a sprinkling of romance!

Khiladi 786 will once again see the ever-entertaining Akshay assume the role of action hero as he fights the bad guys, cracks some wise one-liners and gets the girl in this year’s must see festive film. Khiladi 786 released internationally in cinemas on 7th December 2012.

India eases visa restrictions for Pakistan

0

Pakistani tourists and business travellers will soon be able to visit India without many of the restrictions placed upon them in recent years.

The easing of the restrictions comes as Rehman Malik, Pakistan’s interior minister, visits New Delhi to ratify a new visa agreement between the two countries.

Malik’s three-day trip – his first official visit to India – is aimed at boosting trade and business relations between the South Asian rivals, and heralds the most significant changes to visa rules since 1974.

Tourists will now be allowed to visit five cities in India, instead of being restricted to three, as in previous years. Business travellers will be allowed to visit between five and 10 cities, depending on their business revenue.

Elderly visitors, traders and young children will also be exempted from reporting to police stations during their trip.

Flights between Islamabad and New Delhi are to be resumed, as are ferry services between Karachi and Mumbai – the Indian financial capital hit by the 2008 massacre in which 166 people were killed by Pakistani gunmen reported to be members of Lashkar-e-Taiba – designated as a “terrorist” group by several nations.

If you are a British Pakistani and have experienced problems obtaining a Visa for India, then we want to hear from you. Get in touch newsdesk@asiansunday.co.uk

North London property developer banned for four years for £500k tax dodge

0

Walid Wasfi Wasif Musmar director of Oberon Properties Ltd,(Oberon) has been disqualified from acting as a company director for four years for failing to pay corporation tax. The disqualification follows an investigation by The Insolvency Service.

Oberon, who developed properties in Camden, north London, sold the last of its properties for £3,583,302 in May 2007 and incurred corporation tax of over £500,000 from the sale. This amount was due for payment in August 2008.

Mr Musmar (38) of Highgate and Antoni Fields (53) of Barnet in London, both directors of Oberon, caused the company to pay £3,727,845, including loans totalling £640,000 to another company that they were directors of, but didn’t pay any of the corporation tax debt.

Mr Fields gave an undertaking not to act as a director in relation to his conduct in Oberon Properties Ltd for four years from 16 November 2010. Mr Musmar’s disqualification begins 14 December 2012.

Oberon went into liquidation on 19 December 2008 owing HMRC £535,563, in unpaid tax.

Commenting on the case, Mark Bruce, a Chief Examiner at The Insolvency Service said:

“Directors who seek an unfair advantage by not paying tax should not expect to get away with it. This conduct harms commercial confidence and the UK’s reputation as a place to do business.

“Other directors tempted to follow this path should remember that if they run a business in a way that is detrimental to its customers, its creditors or the public they lose the protection afforded by limited liability. The Insolvency Service will investigate them and seek to remove them from the business environment.”

Check before you travel advice for drivers with snow forecast for parts of the North

0

Drivers in the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber are being advised by the Highways Agency to check weather and traffic conditions before setting out on journeys overnight with a forecast of snow in some areas.
The Highways Agency, which operates motorways and key trunk roads in the region, is being advised by the Met Office that up to two inches of snow could fall overnight and throughout tomorrow morning north of Newcastle in Northumberland – potentially affecting the A1.

Eastern parts of North Yorkshire could be similarly affected with a possible impact on the A64 and A19.

Chris Holehouse, Highways Agency Asset Delivery Manager for the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber, said:

“We are not anticipating any particular problems and will be monitoring and using salt to treat the network as we do routinely at this time of the year. However, snow showers can be highly localised and hard to predict so drivers have a key role to play in checking weather reports and planning for their journeys before leaving home.”

Highways Agency traffic officers at the North East regional control centre at Calder Park near Wakefield will be monitoring the motorway network and where possible setting signs giving advice to drivers.

On-road traffic officers will be on standby to respond quickly to any incidents with the Highways Agency’s contractors and vehicle removal service also on alert.

Drivers should check their local media for updated weather and travel advice before setting out on journeys. If they are travelling they should keep up to date with weather and travel advice, heed warnings and electronic message signs and drive to conditions – leaving extra time for journeys and extra room for braking and avoiding sudden manoeuvres such as braking or changing lanes suddenly.

Information about a winter driving kit and other advice to help motorists be prepared for winter is on the Highways Agency website at www.highways.gov.uk/winter

Up-to-date information on road conditions on England’s motorways and trunk roads is available on the Highways Agency website at www.highways.gov.uk/traffic or by calling the Highways Agency Information Line at 0300 123 5000.

Traffic information is available on Twitter by following @HAtraffic_neast and @HAtraffic_yorks, with winter driving information on @winterhighways and on Facebook (facebook.com/winterhighways

26p AN HOUR CAR HIRE!!!

0

A car hire service has today launched in the capital, offering MINIs for just 26p an hour. Taking inspiration from the ‘Boris Bike’ scheme, the docking station is located in the West End’s bustling Berkley Square and will run from 0800 – 1800 until Thursday 6th December for commuters to experience driving fun in a MINI Cooper for less than the cost of a chocolate bar.

The initiative comes off the back of new research revealing that Londoners have the least amount of fun in Britain, followed by their counterparts in Manchester and Birmingham – with 142, 148 and 152 minutes fun-time daily. This is compared to a smiling Swansea whose residents manage to find more than four hours (244 minutes) to enjoy themselves each day

The cost of just 26p is an hourly rate based on a finance package of just £189 a month for a MINI Cooper (plus deposit) – a special finance offer designed to make MINIs more affordable.

There is no need to sign up first, just visit the MINI Fun Hire Service, insert 26p into the ticket machine, take your ticket and off you go.  Staff will be on hand to introduce drivers to the delights of the MINI Cooper Hatch, with its famous go-kart handling and grin-inducing driving dynamics, and will accompany the driver for the hour and even drive it back from their end destination – ready for the next pleasure-poor Brit.

The study showed that Brits have fun for an average of just over two hours a day – that is a mere ten per cent of their year. With more than half of Brits (54 per cent) blaming their fun-deprived days on their daily commute – and a further 42 per cent admitting they work too many hours to be able to enjoy themselves.

Men were found to have more fun than women, enjoying 151 minutes of laughter time on average each day compared to 146 minutes.

The top ten fun-deprived cities are:

1.         London (142 minutes per day)
2.         Manchester (148 minutes per day)
3.         Birmingham (151 minutes per day)
4.         Belfast (151 minutes per day)
5.         Edinburgh (152 minutes per day)
6.         Cardiff (153 minutes per day)
7.         Leeds (155 minutes per day)
8.         Glasgow (180 minutes per day)
9.         Derby (181 minutes per day)
10. Leicester (186 minutes per day)

Breakdown of age groups who have the least fun per day:

1.         25 – 34s (142 minutes per day)
2.         35 – 44s (146 minutes per day)
3.         45 – 54s (149 minutes per day)
4.         Under 25s (185 minutes per day)
5.         55s and over (190 minutes per day)

Review: Hanqs Diner

0

I visited Hanqs in a party of two at lunchtime on a weekday, and was quite surprised at the lack of customers in the diner, as I had heard some good reviews.
We were greeted at the door in true American style by a smiling young waitress. As we entered, the diner itself was spacious and the booth we were assigned to would easily fit 6 people and many large plates of food. Our waitress handed us our menus and left us to peruse the extensive menu. I was very pleased to see authentic American options without any deviation into fusion foods which is very common in Bradford eateries. Everything from hearty breakfast fry ups to slow cooked ribs and waffles to malted milkshakes. The array of choice was certainly impressive but would the taste match the talk!? I choose the Philly Cheese Steak sub and my fellow diner choose the Chicken Florentine crepe and we both opted for a side of chips. For drinks we ordered a Vanilla and a Strawberry Milkshake with malt. The drinks were served promptly, in traditional long glasses topped with cream and sprinkles; they both tasted great, with good quality ice cream and lots of flavour.
Not long after receiving our milkshakes the food arrived, served with a side salad and slightly oddly, with a wooden kebab skewer sticking out of one of the subs. I assume this was an attempt to emulate the American style of putting a tooth pick like skewer in the sandwiches to hold them together but this kebab skewer was a little long! The sides followed immediately after the mains. The chips were the nicest I have tasted in a while, quite chunky and clearly double cooked as a good chip should be! The sub was a ciabatta roll lightly toasted, filled with cheese, jalapenos, onions and steak, the meat was tender, complimented by the smooth melted cheese and jalapenos brought a touch of heat, but I would say the meat lacked seasoning which I think would of brought out the flavour better. On sampling my co-diners crepe, it was delicious, full of onions, chicken, mushrooms and spinach cover in a creamy hollandaise sauce. Portion size was just right, I probably didn’t need to have a side order but as I had ordered them I was determined to finish my tasty chips! The diner obviously uses good quality ingredients, which is obvious when seeing and tasting the food. This is definitely not a standard burger joint in Bradford, and due to its spaciousness I think it would be a great place for children’s parties and large groups wanting a more casual environment and hearty, tasty food.
I am also aware that they have embraced the hugely popular ‘Man vs Food’ food challenge concept, with set times to complete insane amounts or ridiculously spicy food. This adds to the American style authenticity and also shows the light hearted nature of the diner.
The only slight negatives are regarding the car park; the lack of signage to indicate how to get into the car park and also it is quite small, I am not sure if the diner was very busy where you would park.
