It is believed Britain’s first female Muslim Lord Mayor has been suspended from the regional Labour Party office for alleged misconduct in public office.
A source who wishes to remain anonymous has exclusively told Asian Sunday that a complaint has been made against Bradford Coun Naveeda Ikram for misconduct in public office, which includes trying to obtain Council contracts without declaring her personal interest.
A Yorkshire and Humber Labour Party spokesperson said:
“Naveeda Ikram has been suspended by the Labour Party pending an investigation.”
Ikram was elected as Labour’s first British Asian female Councillor in 2004 and in 2011 she became the first British Muslim Female Lord Mayor in the UK.
