A 57-year old Buckingham-bred man is going the extra mile this Ramadan

Amjad Mahmood, father of three and grandfather of two, has set himself the challenge of running 375km, whilst refraining from food or drink from sunrise till sunset.

Despite fasting for 16 hours straight, Mr Mahmood has managed to push his body to new limits everyday throughout the Muslim holy month.

“We are so lucky to have a home, a family, and enough food and water” says Mr Mahmood.

Fasting from 4am every morning, he fights exhaustion and dehydration, but driving him is his goal of raising £5,000

Fuelled by his determination of helping others in need, and driven by his commitment to supporting Penny Appeal, Mr Mahmood has so far raised £3,390 which is 68% of his final goal.

With all proceeds going towards building new homes for families in Syria.

Mr Mahmood comments “what I go through on these runs doesn’t even come close to what people who have been caught up in the Syrian war and living in poverty have to deal with on a daily basis.

“If I can help them by giving them a new home, then all of this is worthwhile.”

While for most Muslims, Ramadan is extremely physically and emotionally demanding, on day 16 of this Ramadan, Mr Mahmood ran a half marathon.

His unwavering support from his family and friends, has allowed him to stay on track and is nearing the end of this incredible feat.

“The generous donations that I receive really do make a huge impact.”
