Comedian Kapil Sharma is among the latest celebrities to receive a death threat via email, reportedly sent from Pakistan. Joining him in this alarming trend are actor Rajpal Yadav, singer-comedian Sugandha Mishra, and choreographer-director Remo D’Souza, who have all lodged similar complaints with the Mumbai Police.
The threats, signed off as “BISHNU,” demand responses within eight hours, warning of severe personal and professional consequences if ignored. Kapil Sharma filed his complaint with the Amboli Police, who registered an FIR under Section 351(3) of the BNS Act and have initiated an investigation.
According to officials, the email stated:
“We are monitoring your recent activities and believe it is important to bring to your attention a sensitive matter. This is not a publicity stunt or an attempt to harass you. We urge you to treat this message with utmost seriousness and confidentiality.”
Rajpal Yadav, who received the email last December, revealed in a statement to NDTV:
“I have filed a complaint with Amboli Police and the cybercrime department. I haven’t discussed it further as I am an artiste focused on entertaining audiences. The authorities are handling the matter.”
Sugandha Mishra and Remo D’Souza have also reported receiving identical emails. Mumbai Police are working urgently to determine the sender’s identity, with speculation linking the case to recent high-profile criminal activities targeting celebrities.
The incident comes in the wake of other violent occurrences in Mumbai’s entertainment hub. Politician Baba Siddique was shot dead near his Bandra residence in October 2024, a murder claimed by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
Actor Salman Khan has heightened security measures, including installing bulletproof windows, after receiving threats from the same group.
Just last week, Saif Ali Khan was brutally attacked at his Bandra home. The actor was stabbed six times during the early hours of Thursday. After undergoing surgery at Lilavati Hospital, where doctors removed a 2.5-inch blade from his wounds, Saif returned home and expressed gratitude to an auto driver, Bhajan Singh Rana, who rushed him to the hospital. Saif met the driver to personally thank him, a moment that captured public attention.
Mumbai Police remain vigilant as they investigate these threats and attacks, which continue to unsettle Bollywood and its stars.
