Mumbai glittered brighter than ever on Thursday evening as Bollywood royalty gathered for the grand premiere of Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated return to the big screen. Held on 19th June, ahead of the film’s worldwide release, the star-studded event became an unforgettable celebration of cinema, inclusion, and storytelling.

In a moment that thrilled fans and media alike, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan were both in attendance, a rare and heartwarming sight. Cameras captured a candid moment that quickly went viral when Salman Khan playfully told the paparazzi that Sitaare Zameen Par was first offered to him, before Aamir Khan stepped into the lead role.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan, dressed down in a white tee, grey hoodie, and beanie, brought warmth and encouragement to the evening. He was seen greeting the film’s debutant actors with genuine admiration. His appearance followed the release of a behind-the-scenes video in which he revealed that Aamir had persistently urged him to meet the new cast. “Aamir has told me at least 10 times, ‘Come and meet the actors, they’re doing so well.’ Even three days ago, he said, ‘Shah, tu ana yaar!’” said Shah Rukh in the heartfelt clip.

The guest list read like a who’s who of Indian cinema. Rekha, Asha Bhosale, Juhi Chawla, Vicky Kaushal, Tiger Shroff, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Jeetendra, Kriti Kharbanda, Sunny Kaushal, Tushar Kapoor, Ali Fazal, Jackie Shroff, and many others graced the red carpet. Notably, Aamir Khan’s son Azad Rao Khan and his partner Gauri Spratt also attended, lending the night a touching personal note.

Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par (2007) and is directed by R.S. Prasanna. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film stars Genelia Deshmukh alongside Aamir Khan and features ten remarkable debutant actors with intellectual disabilities: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Ashish Pendse, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar, and Aayush Bhansali.

The ensemble cast also includes Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Ankita Sehgal.

As the curtains fell on the premiere, early reactions began pouring in and they’ve been overwhelmingly positive. Social media is a buzz with praise, with many calling it “an emotional rollercoaster” and “a film that brings hope and heart.” The performances of Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh have been widely applauded, but it’s the debutants who are being hailed as the true “stars” of the show.

With its heartwarming message, inclusive storytelling, and emotional depth, Sitaare Zameen Par is poised to resonate far beyond the cinema halls of India.

The film releases in cinema worldwide on 20 June 2025, distributed by AA Films.
