Nadia Khan has addressed the backlash she faced over her beauty and skincare advice, responding to age-shaming with confidence and clarity. The controversy began surrounding a beauty vlog on her YouTube channel, where she emphasised the importance of maintaining a proper skincare routine for women in their forties.

Reflecting on the incident, Nadia explained, “During a show, I mentioned how essential it is to follow a good skincare routine in your forties. Some people twisted my words, assuming I was claiming to be 40. They mocked my age and misunderstood that the forties span a decade, from 40 to 49.”

Despite the trolling, Nadia stood firm, highlighting how negativity on social media often stems from a desire to provoke. “Social media is full of people who enjoy saying bad things. We can’t control them, but we can choose to ignore them,” she added. Nadia also doubled down on her advice, insisting that taking care of one’s skin is equally important in one’s forties and fifties.

This isn’t the first time Nadia has been criticised for her age. Previously, actress and model Shizza Khan made a controversial remark on live television, suggesting Nadia might be experiencing a “mid-life crisis.” While Nadia dismissed the comment, it added to the ongoing discourse around age-shaming, particularly for women in the public eye.

Similarly, Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor has recently been dragged into a cross-border controversy over her age. Pakistani actor Khaqan Shahnawaz sparked outrage during a talk show appearance on 14 December when he dismissed the idea of working with Kareena as her romantic co-star, suggesting he could play her son instead due to her age. Describing her as “quite old,” Shahnawaz’s remarks quickly went viral, prompting an outpouring of support for Kareena from fans in both India and Pakistan.

Fans criticised the actor’s comments as “ageist,” with some questioning his relevance compared to Kareena’s iconic status in Bollywood. One user wrote, “Bro thinks he cracked a funny joke. You don’t exist for her,” while another remarked, “Who even is Khaqan Shahnawaz?”

These incidents highlight the persistent ageism women face in public life, whether it’s Nadia Khan tackling trolls or Kareena Kapoor enduring dismissive remarks. Such episodes reflect a troubling cultural narrative that equates ageing with a loss of relevance or value, especially for women.
