Selena Gomez has admitted that returning to her music career might be “very hard” after the overwhelming success of her role in the film Emilia Perez.

The 32-year-old star, who recently showcased her acting chops in Jacques Audiard’s crime musical, revealed at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival that her recent experiences in film and television have left her so inspired that she plans to focus on these projects in the near future.

She shared, “I think film and art-making, and being around such incredible, talented people who have uplifted me every step of the way… It’s going to be very hard for me to ever go back to music after this.”

The actress, who is already a music sensation, hopes that Emilia Perez will serve as a stepping stone in her acting career, stating, “The director just really trusted me, and I was so grateful because I’ve been able to show people that I am capable of doing more. I hope this is just the beginning for me.”

Though Selena has enjoyed considerable success as both an actress and a singer, she recently acknowledged that she feels she’s “a little too old for the pop-star life.” In an interview with Variety, she said, “I definitely think my strong suit is probably acting. But one thing I’m proud of in music is being able to tell a story—my favourite songs are mostly ballads, and they’re very transparent and honest. But I think I might be a little too old for the pop-star life.”

Selena has embraced this “new era” in her life and is excited about what lies ahead. She added, “I’m genuinely so happy to just be in this new chapter because, in a lot of ways, it’s just the beginning.”

For now, the Wolves singer is prioritising her passion for acting, and while she doesn’t see her music career as something she’ll completely leave behind, she is currently relishing the opportunities film and television are presenting her.

Time will tell if Selena makes a comeback to music, but for now, it seems her acting career is firmly in the spotlight.
