Shahid Kapoor, one of the few Bollywood actors to have had a successful OTT debut, recently shared his thoughts on the impact of streaming platforms on stardom. The actor, who made his OTT debut with Raj and DK’s Amazon Prime Original Farzi in 2023, alongside Vijay Sethupathi, spoke about finding a balance between his film career and the streaming world.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Kapoor was asked whether stardom takes a backseat when superstars like him venture into OTT. Shahid thoughtfully responded, asking if the interviewer thought he shouldn’t have taken on the role in Farzi. He clarified, “I have done only one show. If I had done a lot of shows, I agree with what you’re saying.”

Shahid went on to explain that OTT offers a unique opportunity, noting, “Actually, OTT gives you a different opportunity. I am only interested in giving the audience a great experience. As a creative person, my priority is to give you a great experience.”

He added, “I am trying to find a balance. I think Farzi has added a lot for me as an actor. It has added a new audience. And so does a movie of mine. So, both have their own place. I think, you should do it in a balanced way and not overdo it. That’s the only thing.”

Farzi was released on Amazon Prime in 2023, where Shahid played an artist who becomes embroiled in the counterfeit currency business. The series was well-received by both critics and audiences. Following Farzi, Shahid starred in Bloody Daddy (2023) and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024). His first release of 2025, Deva, hits theatres today, marking his return to the big screen.

In Deva, Shahid Kapoor is set to portray his “Angry Young Man” persona. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film also marks the director’s Hindi debut, though he is better known for his work in Malayalam cinema.
