Apprentice boy Soloman Akhtar lands himself into a little trouble

By Aalia Khan

As we gear up for another series of The Apprentice on the box, most of us are still reeling over the shocking firing of three contestants last week. Last series Lord Sugar gave the contestants the task of creating video channels for You Tube.  Despite both teams producing disappointing results, there always has to be one winner and a loser. For winning team Summit’s team leader Soloman Akhtar, it was a close call, both in the board room and out of it.

The self proclaimed party boy, Soloman Akhtar recently landed himself into a sticky situation when rumours spiralled that a supposed sex tape he made with one of his ex-girlfriends could be leaked.

The BBC Bosses were believed to be concerned that Soloman’s sex tape could be leaked whilst the tenth series is airing. Although Soloman is said to be on good terms with his ex there are still fears that she could leak the alleged tape as word of it has already spread.

News of the tape emerged from a friend of Soloman’s who tweeted ‘revelation of the day’ along with information of the tape, the tweet was later deleted. His friends have reportedly told The Sun that this tape is one of many and his other ex girlfriends could still potentially bring out some scoops.

soloman akhtarZeeshan Shah, 2013 Apprentice candidate says it is “Disappointing” to hear such news about the candidate, and dependant on how far this controversy goes it could affect Soloman’s chances of being successful within the show, “If he gets to the final, and this issue escalates then it will definitely damage his chances of winning.” Zeeshan, also known as Zee, advised that Soloman should try and find out where this information is coming from and handle the sources, he also says Soloman should “Keep quiet for now and try to end the story.”

According to The Sun a show insider said: ‘This is a concern for Solomon and the BBC. Both are hoping his conquests keep quiet. He is still on good terms with his ex, so while she has obviously told friends about the tape, fingers are crossed that she won’t leak it. But there are no guarantees that she, or any other former flames, won’t come out of the woodwork and reveal what he’s been up to.’

Azhar Siddique, a 2012 Apprentice candidate said “Soloman is coming across very bright, smart and intelligent.” However Azhar did say that “If news like that is coming out at the moment about a particular candidate then it is more likely than they will not be in the finals.” Azhar stated that candidates who make it to the final “Generally do not try and get any media attention.” Could it be possible that Soloman has himself allowed this information to leak through his friends?

It is said that ‘Solly’ known to his friends had to confess about the tape to the BBC bosses after his friends revealed the information, however Soloman spoke to The Tab and denied any of these stories, stating that there is no tape and it is ‘All Bullshit’, he was unable to say anything further.

Despite the controversy Zee believes that Soloman is a good candidate for the show, “He is very quiet but that can be deceiving at times; when somebody is quiet the audience might believe that he is not interesting but behind the scenes Lord Sugar is taking notes of the things he is doing.” Zee says Soloman is “quite an intelligent guy” and he may be doing well in the background. He also says Soloman’s background in tech could prove to be an asset for him as Lord Sugar is also from a tech background himself.

Zee advised that all the candidates should “Work hard, carry on doing what you are doing, and when you see an opportunity and task that you think is right for you then definitely go for it with full force, but do not jump into anything unnecessarily without thinking.” Azhar’s one piece of advice to the candidates was to “Enjoy the ride.”

Soloman is a young entrepreneur who runs his own social media technology business and works at a creative agency. He is looking to build a possible business with Lord Sugar if he emerges as the winner of this year’s apprentice, but could this sandal ruin his chances?

Amitabh Bachchan’s insight on marketing and promotions of a film

0

Amitabh Bachchan’s film career has spanned decades and he has been in the film industry when social media was non-existent, marketing a film was an unknown topic and when movies get lost in the ‘crowd’ if they were not promoted well. But he says the fate of a movie only lies in its quality.

The actor who is currently shooting for Shoojit Sircar’s “Piku”, has been regularly sharing some snapshots from the schedule for his ‘extended family’ on social networking platforms — whether the movie’s makers like it or not.

FullSizeRender“They wonder and send alarms to not publicise the pictures of the film PIKU…yet…for they jeopardise the marketing of the other projects I work on…which shall be released much ahead of this one,” Big B posted on his blog srbachchan.tumblr.com.

“But…I argue…no matter what strategy one may devise, if the film is not good, no amount of campaign genius by genius campaigners, shall change the fate of a bad film,” he continued.

His “Shamitabh” releases Feb 6, 2015. “There shall be marketing for that aggressively during December and January coming months,” he said.

The 72-year-old’s other film “Wazir” will release April 2015, and he says “that publicity can wait…or do they wish it were to come.”

“In today’s times when a billion mobile cameras follow you wherever you go, it is well nigh impossible to keep anything away from the public. So, might as well let them exploit the situation, than to get into any ugly spat with either the media or the organisers,” says Amitabh on the impossibility of hiding things from the public eye.

Meanwhile, his fans are enjoying every bit of the glimpses he’s sharing from “Piku”, in which he will be seen with Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Akshay wishes to please his son with his choice of work

0

Akshay Kumar has been through a journey of ups and downs in his career as an actor. The early riser has always ensured he is on the sets on time and says this is what allows his to carry out multiple projects in a year.

He says that his choice of work arises from what he feels that his son Aarav will enjoy “I want to do films that my son can enjoy. If he doesn’t like my film, he comes to me and tells me that he didn’t understand the film at all.” Akshay does not prioritise films with the amount of money they can make but instead focuses on the entertainment and enjoyment aspect.

In a time when stars are sticking to one or two films in a year rule, Akshay is still doing more than that and for him managing multiple projects is a child’s play.

akshay-kumar-2“People accuse me of doing four films in a year, but it’s not impossible,” said the actor who already had two releases this year – “Holiday -A Soldier Is Never Off Duty” and “It’s Entertainment”.

“Actors should reach sets on time. If actors would come on time, then the crew would also come on time. It’s not impossible to shoot four films in a year if you reach sets on time,” said Akshay.

Askshay is a star, but his journey has been dotted with ups and downs. He says that those film-makers who refused to work him when he was going through the flop phase, now makes a beeline outside his house. But now the tables have turned and Akshay wants to work on his terms and condition.

“It’s not their mistake that they didn’t cast me when I was a flop artist, and I feel you should take it positively and work hard. Not once or twice thrice the film-makers have come back to me. Now when they come back, I quote my price,” said the 47-year-old.

Voice your opinions and have your say on Bradford Council’s spending

0

Many residents have held a viewpoint on the way government spending should be prioritised and when and where the money should be spent more of or less; the public have now been given the opportunity to share these views at a meeting being held at City Hall this Thursday (November 6)

The Council faces more significant cuts in its budget and is holding a series of events this year and next so the people of the District can have some influence on how their money should be spent.

Bradford Council Leader, Coun David Green, said he wants to strike a ‘New Deal’ with the public.

He said: “We need to get people’s views on what they expect from their local services and how things can be done differently in the future in order to preserve those facilities they care about.

“We have already received some interesting comments and suggestions but still need to get more feedback.

“It’s really important that Council taxpayers have their say on what
really matters to them.”

At last week’s event in Bingley, participants said they cared most about education, support for vulnerable people, the cleanliness of the environment, their health and having a job.

Some felt that the Council budget should be devolved locally and that some things that the Council does now could be done by other groups, such as cultural events, and establishing “friends groups” to look after public spaces such as parks.

Because the Council has had to cut its spending by over £170 million since 2011, and the money for Council services is forecast to reduce by another £130 million between now and 2020, it is evident that Council services cannot continue as they currently stand.

To have your say, book a place at this Thursday’s meeting by logging on to www.bradford.gov.uk/newdeal or just turn up at 5.45pm.

Similar events are being held at Keighley Central Hall on 13 November; Kirkgate Centre, Shipley on 20 November; Thornbury Centre on 14 January; Richard Dunn Sports Centre, Odsal on 22 January; Clayton Village Hall on 28 January and the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley on 5 February.

Parineeti’s prank on Big Boss

0

By Aalia Khan

The kill Dil team were on the sets of Big Boss yesterday to enjoy some fun, games and hungama with the bb contestants and Salman Khan.

Govinda and Salman began the show with a bang by dancing to their memorable song partner.

Then the kill Dil team; Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar entered the Big Boss house to partake in some games with the contestants. After some Kill Dil fun they all danced to Govinda’s famous song akhiyon se goli Marai.

parineetiDuring the dancing Parineeti seemed to get angry at Ali Quli Mirza for apparently touching her in an inappropriate way. She took him off to the side and told him that this was not right and he needs to think about the way he acts. She, Ranveer and Ali Zafar then left the house through the confession room.

Ali, who has already faced such an incident before when he touched contestant Sonali in an inappropriate way under the duvet covers, was shocked at this allegation and kept telling the housemates that he hadn’t done anything.

Salman and Govinda then appeared on me TV screen to speak to the contestants and Salman was furious with Ali. He told him that if he doesn’t realise what he is doing then he needs to see a psychologist and get himself checked out.

aliSuddenly Salman broke into laughter and told Ali this was all just a joke. Ali was still in shock as to what was happening. Parineeti and the Kill Dil boys then appeared alongside Salman and Govinda and they were all in hysterics. Parineeti told Ali to smile as it was just a joke and also apologised for the fear she had put him in. Ali finally broke out in a grin and sang a song to ease out the tense moment.

However is joke funny or completely wrong? A question that should probably should have been thought about.

This is Bradford – Sabbiyah Pervez on BBC Radio Leeds

0

By Aalia Khan

BBC Radio Leeds headed to Bradford on Friday 31 October, when the entire station decamped to the city for the day.  The event included the first of a new series airing on BBC Radio Leeds called This Is Bradford. The programme is being presented by blogger Sabbiyah Pervez. She will be looking closely at social and political issues on the programme, particularly affecting South Asians in the UK. In her first report she spoke to Bradford’s Asian women about the taboos around, and low awareness of, cancer screening.

Sabbiyah Pervez

Sabbiyah is famously known for appearing on the Channel 4 show Make Bradford British. She was an outspoken candidate on the show and was not afraid to voice her opinion, she says “For me it was about getting a different voice out there, I went on the show as I feel that Muslim women are portrayed as being very oppressed but I wanted to present a view that Muslim women are actually quite feisty, opinionated and very successful. I know I managed to get that message out loud and clear.”

Sabbiyah holds a high opinion of Bradford and says she “Loves it.” Having been born and bred in Bradford she is aware of the issues and topics that surround the city. Sabbiyah went on to study in Manchester and then got married and moved to Lancashire, but she has recently moved back to Bradford as she could not keep away from her roots.  She says “I’ve been dying to move back to Bradford because I love the community and the people here. There is no other feeling of community elsewhere like there is in Bradford. So I love the city and it’s my home.”

When asked if she felt that the Asian Community in Bradford was segregated Sabbiyah responded that she did not believe it was segregated but “There are problems in terms of the certain areas people live in.” In her view the problems arise from the predominantly Pakistani areas such as Manningham, and the predominantly white populated areas such as Queensbury, as areas such as these restrict the likelihood of integration.

However as a whole she says there are a lot of areas in Bradford in which people are coming together and trying to do a lot of positive work. Sabbiyah praises areas such as Shipley, Frizinghall and Heaton for the amount of integration taking place “There are kids groups in Heaton which are multiethnic, all the kids get together to go out and play and I think it’s awesome. We do have segregated parts in Bradford but we can’t ignore the bigger areas of Bradford and the people who are trying really hard to do some positive work.”

Sabbiyah’s journey has taken her from being on a TV series to now working within Journalism, she says she has always been interested in politics, current affairs and issues that surround communities especially identity, “For me identity politics is something very close to my heart, so naturally I have always had questions surrounding these topics so it was just a natural progression.”

In the first part of This is Bradford Sabbiyah found that the levels of cancer awareness in some South Asian communities are very low compared to the white communities, she discussed this with a variety of women to find out why this is. The programme is a four part series and Sabbiyah says they have not yet decided the topics for the upcoming three episodes or when the following episodes will be aired.

Sabbiyah also has a blog in which she talks about the social topics of interest to her. Her blog can be found at: http://sabbiyah.co.uk/
