The Metropolitan Police has issued issued more than 50 fines over the Downing Street and Whitehall parties that took place while England was under lockdown and it is believed those included are Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak
While the police have said they would not be naming those who received the fines, the government has announced that the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak “have today received notification that the Metropolitan Police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices”.
No 10 confirmed the pair had received notification from the Metropolitan Police that they would be given fixed penalty notices.
But a spokesman said they had not been told which event the fine was for.
The force is investigating alleged Covid law-breaking at 12 gatherings in Whitehall and Downing Street.
Meanwhile Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has tweeted: “Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have broken the law and repeatedly lied to the British public. They must both resign.
“The Conservatives are totally unfit to govern. Britain deserves better.”
