The fight between Errol Spence Jr and Yordenis Ugas will happen according to sources in early 2022 with a unification bout for the belts on the line.
Currently, Spence has the WBC and IBF titles and was expected to face Manny Pacquiao recently but the fight did not materialise after Spence pulled out of the fight with an eye operation which resulted in Pacquaio fighting Yordenis Ugas who did the unthinkable and beat Pacquiao.
Spence (27-0, 21 KO) hasn’t fought since beating Danny Garcia Dec. 2020 which was Spence’s first fight after facing a terrible car crash in 2019 which almost took Spence’s life.
Ugas (27-4, 12 KO) has become one of the top welterweights after fighting his way up and beating Pacquaio as mentioned.
Pacquaio, after losing to Ugas, expressed on his social media accounts and in press that he would retire from boxing with commitments outside of boxing towards his country which needed to be addressed.
Spence vs Ugas will be expected to take place on FOX pay-per-view from Premier Boxing Champions. A fight which many people thought would be next for Spence would be another unification bout but one against Terrence Crawford.
The fight between the two has boiled over for a couple of years now and fans are very eager to see both fight. Crawford recently beat Shawn Porter which has never been seen before. The former IBF champion soon after the fight retired explaining how he would hang up the gloves as he had accomplished what he wanted in his career.
Crawford on the other hand has left his old promoter, Bob Arum as he explained after his win over Porter, “Bob couldn’t get me the fight before so he wont be able to get me it now”.
As of right now, Crawford is in a free contract and looks to fight other welterweights to hopefully one day secure a fight with Errol Spence.
