Khabib Nurmagomedov is probably one of the greatest mixed martial art fighters in the history of the UFC. After defeating Justin Gaethje in what nobody knew would be Khabib’s last fight, he decided to hand up the gloves after losing his father to COVID-19 in earlier in the year.
In a heartfelt speech with commentator, Joe Rogan, Khabib expressed how his father not being by his side made him realise how much he missed him. Khabib’s mother also expressed he shouldn’t continue fighting so Khabib explained it was time to retire from the sport and focus on other matters in life.
Many fans believed Khabib would fight again as his record ended with 29 wins with 0 losses. Something which has never been achieved in the UFC. Dana White, the president of the UFC explained he had struck a deal with Khabib to fight once more but Khabib was adamant to not fight again and said it would not happen.
After touring across the UK recently and talking about his career as one of the greatest MMA fighters, Khabib was also training to be a coach for all the upcoming Russian fighters from his town in Russia. He started cornering bouts and this has now created a passion for Khabib to create his own MMA organization.
Eagle MMA the promotion based at the moment in Russia, but Khabib is hopeful for it to blow up in the near future. Khabib already has high hopes as he’s recently signed Kevin Lee, a former fighter in the UFC who recently was released.
However, Khabib has expressed he is not keen on creating a womans division as part of his promotion as he explained, “we shall see if we want a female division.
“We can watch UFC, Amanda Nunes, the greatest of all time like what Pena did with Amanda and like Pena is not the greatest or something like this. She just beat Amanda Nunes like, and we can watch not many good fighters across the world. Only like 5 or 6 and we’ll see, we’ll see”.
It seems Khabib does have a point as there aren’t many female fighters who are well known a part for a couple.
Compared to the men’s division in not only UFC but other promotions, there are a lot of male fighters around the world which people love to watch and compete.
What are your thoughts on Khabib’s view on not having a female division?
