Tyson Fury is expected to fight against his WBC championship belt mandatory, Dillian Whyte in March as the WBC orders.
Fury has been a wrecking machine since his pro debut a decade ago. The flamboyant and outgoing Fury has beaten all opponents in quest to become world champion and reached that goal in 2015 after dethroning Wladimir Klitschko.
After beating Klitschko, Fury suffered from depression which he expressed in his book how he was at the edge of killing himself whilst driving over 100mph in his Ferrari. Fury immediately put the brakes on his Italian supercar and decided to seek medical help to him overcome his depression.
Now, many years on from the horrific experience of his life, Fury went on to getting back into shape and fighting the former WBC champion Deontay Wilder. Their first fight ended in a draw which many people believed was a robbery as Fury seemed to have won the fight.
However, in their second contest, Fury steamrolled Wilder in one of the biggest upsets in boxing history after Wilders corner threw in the towel to save their fighter. Recently, Fury and Wilder fought for a 3rd time to end the discussion in who was the greater fighter. In regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxing fights in this era, Fury knocked Wilder in the 11th round of their fight.
Across the pond, another upcoming fighter known as Dillian Whyte has been battling it out for many years to earn his shot of becoming heavyweight champion. Dillian Whyte recently fought Alexander Povetkin. A fight which looked like it was going in Whyte’s favour as all 4 rounds of their fight Whyte was winning. Povetkin was also dropped in the round twice before coming back and knocking Whyte out with a clean left uppercut in the fifth round.
What was classed a massive upset, Whyte took no hesitation in fighting Povetkin again in a redemption match to claim back his only loss since losing to Joshua back in 2015.
Both Fury and Whyte have looked tremendous in their fights and now it seems like both will finally fight and Whyte will get his chance to finally become a champion if he can defeat the undefeated Fury.
Frank Warren, the promoter of Tyson Fury has said, he is confident his fighter will beat Whyte so a rematch clause is not in the contract in their scheduled bout.
The possibility of Whyte stepping aside and letting Fury fight Usyk is also unlikely as Joshua is keen to get back his world heavyweight championship belts which also seems like it will take place next year.
Frank Warren is also keen to see Joshua face Fury as he explains, “I hope Joshua wins because if he does, that sets up the fight that we all would like to see. The fight I would like to see at the moment is Usyk in with Tyson”.
In regards to the purse split of the fight, this has yet to be confirmed as Warren explains, “There’s nothing to negotiate at the moment because we need to know what that percentage is going to be, and as soon as we get it, the quicker we can get down to the nitty-gritty”.
Who do you think will take the heavyweight belts next year? Do you think it’s a wise decision for Frank Warren not to have a rematch clause in Tysons fight against Whyte?
