Kangana Ranaut is making her long-standing dream a reality with the launch of her first café, The Mountain Story, in Himachal Pradesh. The actress-turned-politician took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a throwback moment with Deepika Padukone, playfully inviting her to be the café’s first customer.
A decade-old promise?
Kangana reshared an old clip from the News18 Actresses Roundtable in 2013, where she spoke about her ambition to open a restaurant one day. In the video, when asked where she saw herself in 10 years, Kangana responded:
“I’d like to open a restaurant with a world menu. I’ve eaten all over the world, and I’m carrying amazing recipes. I’d like to have a very, very beautiful little cafeteria somewhere. I’m very good with food.”
Deepika, sitting alongside Kangana, had playfully chimed in, saying, “I’ll be your first client.”
Now, 11 years later, Kangana reposted the clip, adding:
“If walking the talk had a face, ha ha, it would be me… also @deepikapadukone you should be my first client.”
A complicated relationship
Despite this lighthearted throwback, Kangana and Deepika’s relationship has been far from smooth over the years. In 2018, when Deepika faced violent threats from the Rajput Karni Sena over her role as Rani Padmini in Padmaavat, Kangana refused to sign a petition in support of the actress. More recently, Kangana revealed that she turned down Deepika’s role in Padmaavat, calling it “irrelevant.”
What’s next for Kangana and Deepika?
Kangana, who recently made her solo directorial debut with the political thriller Emergency, has also stepped into politics, winning a BJP seat in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. She is now set to reunite with her Tanu Weds Manu co-star R. Madhavan for an upcoming film.
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s 2024 cop drama Singham Again and continues to dominate Bollywood’s A-list.
Whether Deepika actually turns up at The Mountain Story remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—Kangana never forgets a statement, even from a decade ago.
