Amazon Prime Video is doubling down on its love for small-town India, and this time, it’s rolling in on two wheels. Enter Dupahiya, a heartland comedy series that has already drawn comparisons to the beloved Panchayat. And with a cast featuring Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, and Sparsh Shrivastava, fans are more than ready for this quirky village caper.

The nine-episode series, helmed by Sonam Nair, revolves around the chaos that unfolds in the fictional village of Dhadakpur when a prized motorcycle disappears-right before the town is set to celebrate 25 years of being crime-free. The show’s title, Dupahiya, literally translates to “two-wheeler” in Hindi, setting the stage for a high-stakes whodunnit (or rather, whostoleit) packed with humour, heart, and a whole lot of small-town charm.

While the Panchayat comparisons were inevitable, they’ve only amped up the anticipation. Fans have already started sharing their excitement online:

“It’s giving wholesome Panchayat vibes!”

“I’ll watch only for Gajraj!”

“Sparsh is seriously underrated-can’t wait to see him in this!”

“For a second, I thought those actors were Raasha Thadani and Veer Paharia. Glad that’s not the case!”

Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani serve as creators and executive producers under their Bombay Film Cartel banner, with the script penned by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg.

Nikhil Madhok, head of originals at Prime Video India, describes the series as a “beautiful blend of humour, heart, and the essence of small-town India,” aligning with the platform’s strategy of showcasing fresh storytellers and female-led productions.

Director Sonam Nair calls Dupahiya “a celebration of humour, chaos, and the quirks of small-town life,” while the creators highlight its focus on “family, fun, and the universal dreams of everyday people.”

The series is set to stream in India and across 240+ countries and territories worldwide starting 7 March. It joins Prime Video India’s impressive line up of originals, including Paatal Lok, Mirzapur, Poacher, and Indian Police Force.

So, if you’ve been missing the warm, witty, and wonderfully relatable storytelling of Panchayat, Dupahiya might just be your next comfort watch-only this time.
