The much-anticipated teaser for The Diplomat, starring John Abraham, is finally out. The clip opens with India’s current Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar, explaining the crucial role of a diplomat.
It then shifts to John Abraham’s character, JP Singh, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, sharply dressed and interrogating someone in a tense setting. Another scene shows him speaking with a distressed Muslim woman, played by Kashmir Files actress Sadia Khateeb, who reveals she is an Indian citizen. Before she can say more, John’s character calmly offers her a glass of water but warns, “Don’t try to hide anything, or it might get difficult for you.”
Based on the real-life Indian diplomat JP Singh, the film delves into high-stakes international negotiations, particularly in Pakistan. The teaser hints at gripping moments of diplomacy, strategy, and conflict resolution.
On 6 February, John Abraham took to Instagram with a cryptic post that read, “Diplomacy wins where weapons fail!”—further fuelling anticipation for the film. Earlier, on 16 January, he had revealed the first look of The Diplomat, featuring himself in a sleek suit, sporting his signature chevron moustache. He captioned it, “Honoured to bring this story of courage and diplomacy to life.”
Directed by Shivam Nair, known for Naam Shabana, and written by Ritesh Shah, The Diplomat also stars Revathy, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series, alongside John Abraham’s JA Entertainment, Vipul D. Shah, Ashwin Varde, Rajesh Bahl (Wakaoo Films), and Sameer Dixit, Jatish Varma, and Rakesh Dang (Fortune Pictures/Seeta Films).
Set to hit cinemas on 7 March, The Diplomat promises an intense, politically charged drama that showcases the power of diplomacy over warfare.
