Pakistan and Sri Lanka met yesterday at Hyderabad, for their World Cup encounter to play a blockbuster game that broke many records. Pakistan successfully reached the target of 345 completed the highest ever chase in World Cup history. Batsmen Abdullah Shafique and Mohd Rizwan both scored centuries to shine in the chase.
However, what unfolded among the crowd in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad was interesting. If Pakistan plays in India, given the political hostilities, one would expect the Indian crowd to cheer for the team Pakistan plays against. What happened in reality was a complete contrast to the perception.
The crowd at the stadium heartedly backed their western neighbours, by cheering ‘Pakistan Jeetega’, as the DJ asked ‘Jeetega bhai Jeetega’. This gesture, touched the Pakistani team. Mohd Rizwan expressed his gratitude towards the Indian crowd.
This is not the first time, the Pakistan Cricket team has been made to feel at home in Hyderabad. Earlier, when the team landed in Hyderabad, they were greeted by hoards of fans outside the Hyderabad cheering for them.
India and Pakistan will meet in their most awaited clash on 14 October, at Ahmedabad.
Listen to the chants here:
Loud chants of "Jeetega bhai jeetega, Pakistan jeetega" in Hyderabad stadium.
They did not start organically but DJ said "jeetega bhai jeetega" & left it to the crowd to finish the famous chant.
The chant went on for close to a minute due to the DJ.#PAKvsSL #CWC23 #Hyderabad pic.twitter.com/f5l54qmtsV
