Bradford’s Youth to have their say

0

Young people from across the Bradford District are being invited to have their say on what activities and support should be available to them in the future.

The Council and its partners are creating a new offer to young people to make the best use of the resources available. The new Youth Offer will provide a wide range of support and activities, such as youth work, to young people to help improve their wellbeing.

The new Youth Offer will be led by the voices of young people with their opinions and views at the heart of what is delivered. The offer will be delivered in part through Council’s services, such as the youth service, but also through the Council’s partners in the voluntary, community and faith sectors.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said “It’s so important that we listen to young people to find out what they need. This is why the Council has commissioned independent advisors to help us do this and to help young people lead this review. We want everyone in the district who works with young people to be involved so that we can be sure we deliver the services, support and activities that will make a difference to young people’s lives.”

A consultation is being launched this month to find out what young people aged 13 to 19 (or 11 to 25 with additional needs) and any interested adults think should be part of the Youth Offer.

The consultation will help establish what the Council and its partners should do to make sure the young people across the district have the best possible support in the future.

Independent organisation People Dialogue and Change has been commissioned by the Council to advise on the development of the Youth Offer. People Dialogue and Change has been working with a group of young
people from across Bradford District to design a set of online surveys and focus groups, and they would now like as many young people and as many adults to give us their views as possible.

James Felton from the young people’s steering group said: “The review is really important because it’s about shaping what is available for us in the future. We want support and activities that will be relevant to us,
so it’s really important that as many young people as possible have their say in the consultation.”

Dan Moxon, Director of People Dialogue and Change, said: “We are trying to build a map of all of the activities for young people across the Bradford District. This will let anyone working with young people see
what is out there, and how it compares to what young people want and need.

“As well as young people’s views, we would also like to hear from any organisations who work with them. We’re inviting organisations to tell us what activities and support they think should be on offer, and to
tell us about what they currently offer. This will help us build up a picture of what is currently available to young people.”

The consultation runs until 31 October and young people and interested adults can have their say by visiting http://www.bradfordyouthoffer.info <http://www.bradfordyouthoffer.info>

Team Happy New Year have launched a reality TV show in India but SRK says he doesn’t like to judge others

As a promotional stunt for their upcoming film Happy New Year, the team have launched a new reality TV show called ‘Dil Se Nachein Indiawale.’

Zee TV have combined with the Happy New Year team, including the actors, to launch this show.

The show’s format requires the film’s actors to judge participants in four cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Indore and Ahmedabad via a joyride on a “Happy Dancing” bus.

SRK believes it is a “perfect fit” for the movie however he does not like being judgemental and judging shows and competitions as he considers himself weak hearted, “I am very weak-hearted. I’m a bad judge and I’m not judgmental about others,” Shah Rukh said.

SRK has already decided how he will be marking the contestants and said that “I feel people who have the jazbaa (zest), those who can perform on the stage in front of thousands and lakhs of people uninhibitedly and entertain them without thinking of the complexities and technicalities of the art…will be great. I’m not a good judge. I will keep giving ten on ten.”

He was also honest in his reasons for avoiding judging people as he says he would “rather go and tell everyone that ‘you’re doing very well’ because it has happened with me. I don’t have too much talent, but people have always given me ten on ten.”

Rump N Ribs Review – Manchester

0

By Aalia Khan

Being a steak lover but not knowing much about steaks, I went to try out a halal steak house called Rump N Ribs in Manchester a while ago.

1k
I have to say they impressed me from the minute we stepped in. The attentive staff had us seated right away in a nice spot at the side of the room; I wouldn’t like to be in the middle. Menus were handed to us right away, and we were given ample amount of time to decide what to order before the waiter came over.

The menu described the different kinds of steaks and what they consist of. The restaurant itself also displayed information on the walls of the different steaks on offer. We decided to go for the fillet steak as my dad, who is a huge steak lover, told me that it is the best one to have. I opted for chips and pepper sauce with my steak.

The food was served within 10 minutes of us ordering it, which was perfect timing considering that they were beginning to get busy. And it was extremely delicious. I managed to finish the entire plate, which was surprising even for me as I never manage to finish my food.

The place itself is very nice and simple, not too much decor or vavavoom, it’s a straight to the point steak house which I liked, the atmosphere was nice and chilled and we could easily feel relaxed there.

I compared the steak at Rump N Ribs to the steak served at the Meat Company, and that is saying something as the steak at the Meat Company is spectacular.

I would give Rump N Ribs a 5/5, as the only fault I can find in them is that they don’t have a restaurant here in Bradford.

New Video to Warn Teens of Tactics Used by Internet Paedophiles

0

Young people will gain extra education and information to the danger of online grooming through a new video which warns of the tricks used by paedophiles to target victims.

The ‘Who Are You Really Talking To?‘ video launched on Wednesday last week. It makes it clear just how easy it is for young victims to be conned by predators posing as teenagers to lure them into sexual exploitation.

The video, which was filmed with actors, shows a teenage girl swapping messages with who she thinks is a teenage boy, who asks her to meet. In reality he is an older man hiding behind a false profile which he uses to attract youngsters.

A ‘Who Are You Really Talking To?’ advertising campaign has been ongoing throughout the summer to spread awareness of this form of child sexual exploitation among both potential victims and also parents. Messages have been displayed on electronic screens in shopping centres and officers have also been speaking to young people in towns and cities. Police and partners, including local authorities, will continue to release web, facebook and twitter posts to promote the issue.

Detective Chief Inspector Sue Jenkinson, of West Yorkshire Police, said the new video was just one part of wide ranging activity to tackle CSE. She said: “This new video really spells out how convincing and manipulative predators can be in luring victims into talking to them online and in concealing their real identities, and I want to thank everyone involved in helping create it.

“People can easily set up fake accounts with fake photos to attract victims and the key message we would encourage young people to remember is never to meet up with someone you’ve only met on line, who pushes for a meeting”

She encouraged people to ask themselves who they are really talking to and avoid putting themselves at risk, at any cost.

She added: “We have a number of criminal investigations ongoing into CSE in West Yorkshire as well as dedicated awareness campaigns taking place in schools and in communities.

“Giving both young people and parents the information about the tactics that predators use and the signs of potential grooming is vital in helping us address and tackle the issue within West Yorkshire.

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner said: “This new video is the latest step in raising awareness of the dangers faced by young people online and reaffirms my and West Yorkshire Police’s continued commitment in making sure we are doing everything we can to safeguard children and young people from child sexual exploitation.

“Protecting our communities from this insidious crime is one of the top priorities in my refreshed Police and Crime Plan and I fully support this continued campaign which gives young people the tools to make informed decisions and identify the tell-tale signs to remain safe and feeling safe. I would recommend all young people and parents take the time to view this short video in helping them to be aware of the dangers.”

If you would like more information on the signs of CSE you can visit the dedicated web page at http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/cse

Also If you have been subject to child sexual exploitation, know somebody who has, or have information about those involved in this crime, please contact the non-emergency number 101 or Crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The clip can be accessed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8VDqP1ks-ek#t=0. It is the latest part of the ‘Know The Signs’ campaign which highlights the issues of child sexual exploitation and encourages victims to report it.

Alia Bhatt’s new venture as a designer

The young, pretty actress has proved that she is versatile by designing her clothing line named Alia for the online shopping site Jabong.

Alia Bhatt gives the credit to Karan Johar for bringing out the love for fashion within her, “I didn’t really understand clothes while I was overweight. When I was auditioning for ‘Student…’ I lost weight and because my character Shanaya was so into dressing up and fashion…because of that I kind of got into loving fashion.”

She says the director always helps her, even if she has worn the wrong outfit on a day to day basis, and his tips and advice have helped her a lot. “Basically, Karan (Johar) has a great influence on that and he has a great fashion sense. He tells me when I am wrongly dressed and when I am doing good.”

Alia Bhatt looks up to designer Manish Malhotra and finds him very inspirational, “I definitely look up to Manish and also because I had the privilege of working with him in my first film. Even today, he is very enthusiastic about his work; he changes his clothes and collections with time. He is always zingy and excited,” Alia said.

“Even as a stylist in movies, he still always inspires and he is excited to do something new and fresh. So, I definitely look up to Manish for his attitude and beautiful clothes,” she adds.

Fawad khan avoids intimate scenes to respect the sentiments of his core audience

0

Fawad khan, the new Bollywood hunk and previous star of Pakistani dramas Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar Hai, has stated that he will not carry out any intimate scenes on screen just yet as he “Does not want to hurt the sentiments of his core audience.”

Fawad was seen carrying out many kissing scenes in his recent hit film khoobsurat, alongside Sonam Kapoor, but the kiss did not actually take place and was only made to look like it did. Fawad says “The audience that has got me where I am. I think I need to respect their feelings.”

“A lot of my audience would be quite offended if I suddenly started losing all my inhibitions. I just want to prepare the audience for a gradual change,”

This means he could possibly begin to carry out intimate scenes in the future as “You never know. I never say never. I’d rather walk the unpredictable path. Besides, I’d never like to throw in something titillating just to spike and spice up a film,” says Fawad.

Fawad believes that intimate scenes can take place without any physical contact and he managed to prove this in his two hit serials in which he did not have any physical contact with both of his co-stars. “What I learnt from doing the two popular Pakistani serials ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ and ‘Humsafar’ is that audiences appreciate a romantic moment without physical intimacy” he explains.

“There was not a touch or a hug anywhere in either series. And yet audiences loved my chemistry with my co-stars (Mahira Khan and Sanam Saeed). I kind of like the idea of virgin romance to just show the couple’s feelings through words and gestures and then leave the rest to the audiences’ imagination,” he said.

Bradford District launches Safeguarding Week 2014

0

The safety of children, young people and adults is of the utmost importance and the coming week of activities represents just that.

Bradford will be launching a week of activities to focus on the extensive work undertaken by the Council and many other partner organisations to safeguard children, young people and adults on Monday, 6 October 2014.

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “Safeguarding Week is a really important initiative for the Bradford District and across West Yorkshire. It brings together professionals from different areas and supports an integrated approach to safeguarding. Initiatives such as the UN GIFT box also highlight the work being undertaken to tackle some of the wider issues faced by our society including human trafficking.”

Bradford Safeguarding Children and Adults boards are coordinating the programme which runs from Monday, 6 to Friday, 10 October. Safeguarding Week has been growing for a number of years and is an innovative approach to raising awareness about safeguarding and supporting integrated working.

Michael Jameson, Strategic Director of Children’s Services, said: “We view safeguarding as the most important responsibility we have. Holding a week of activities dedicated to developing the skills and knowledge of staff who work in this vital area is an important way in which we can share best practice amongst different agencies.”

The week brings together organisations and agencies from across the Bradford District to provide learning and development opportunities for staff and volunteers who work to safeguard adults and children.

The week also provides an opportunity for schools and colleges to showcase work and performances they have developed around safeguarding issues including bullying, keeping safe online, and forming safe relationships.

Cllr Imran Hussain, Deputy Leader of Bradford Council and Chair of the Bradford Community Safety Partnership, said: “Safeguarding is everybody’s business.  The whole community has a role to play in making the district a safer place to live and work. Safeguarding week provides an important way in which we can make practice more effective.”

The launch event on 6 October takes place in City Hall and City Park. It will include live performances and presentations and will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, The Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire, strategic leaders, managers and practitioners from across the district.

Activities at the launch event include ‘Ignite’, a group of pupils from Tong School who will perform “Block, Report, Delete, Get Help!” which focuses on how young people can tackle online abuse.

Other activities include ‘In my shoes’, a DVD presentation on domestic violence survivors’ experiences, and a piece by students from Bradford College Performing Arts students on the theme of safeguarding.

The keynote speaker will be Jasvinder Sanghera, founder of the charity Karma Nirvana, who will be speaking about the changes in the law regarding forced marriage.

The event will close with the launch of the UN GIFT box in City Park. UN GIFT box is an innovative project created by STOP THE TRAFFIK and the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking and was first launched during the 2012 London Olympics. The UN GIFT box will be in City Park from Monday, 6 October to Friday, 10 October and is open from 11am – 4pm. UN GIFT box is hosted by the Soroptomist International of Yorkshire who are working in partnership with STOP THE TRAFFIK.

Jonathan Phillips, Independent Chair of the Bradford Safeguarding Adults Board, said: “Abuse is an issue that can affect anyone and we know many people suffer silently. This week helps us to raise awareness of ways in which we can help make the lives of adults and children safer.”

Get togethers for Silver Sunday

0

Elderly people are being invited to social events that have been organised across the Bradford district to combat loneliness and isolation. They will get to meet the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons, as well as meeting others in the same situation as them.

The events, organised by Councillor Jackie Whiteley, Conservative spokesperson for Adult Services at Bradford Council, are part of a national event called Silver Sunday.

Cllr Whiteley said: “I have co-ordinated three events to help those aged 65 and over who live on their own to get out and meet others in the same situation.

“Many people become isolated through bereavement or disability and loneliness can often lead to depression. We hope people come along and enjoy it and invite their neighbours too.”

The Lord Mayor of Bradford said: “I’m delighted to support these events as part of a national campaign to celebrate older people’s contribution to society and to bring communities together.

“Each event will offer complimentary refreshments courtesy of my predecessor, Cllr Dale Smith, who raised money in his year of office for his Sprinkle Sunshine charity.”

The events take place at The Queen’s Hall, Main Street, Burley-in-Wharfedale, 11.30am – 1.30pm; Sunbridge Road Mission, Gaynor Street, Bradford, 12.30pm – 2.30pm; and Mary Seacole Court, Park Road, Bradford, 2pm – 4pm.

Clooney looked chic and smart in a charcoal grey suit.

The couple reportedly looked extremely happy and content together, smiling and waving at fans and onlookers.

The two also had their wedding bands on show, which they had exchanged during a private ceremony held at the seven-star Aman Canal Grande hotel on Saturday.
